Another Bilstein 5100 question

5100s F&R. Front set to 2.5", rear 1.75" Dobinsons Rear Coils. Maybe a 1/2 inch rake... this is on 275s but I am going to 285s next week.

Hey, why 1.75 inch rear coils and not a 2? I plan on going with 6112s up front and 5100's I'm the rear. I've looked at the dobinson 1.75 you recommended to me in another thread but I was just curious why not 2? Would that have helped with the .5 of rake you mentioned or only made it worse?

they are 1.85-2 I have 3rd row and got just under 2" it is perfect IMO
 
Would I be better off going with 2 if I don't have a third row? Any recommendations? I'm trying to keep the lift to 2 inches so I don't need UCAS and can fit 275s with 0 rub
well you dont need UCAs in the rear so lift away lol.... depende on what you are gonna do up front. I have 5100s set to 2.5" and OEM UCAs with good alignment
 
Hahaha. This is why I asked my initial question. Until it was explained to me in the above posts - I couldn't wrap my mind around how much lift my truck would have with a 2" coil and a 5100 strut set to the various different height adjustments. I now see that regardless of where the 5100 is set, a 2" lift coil will provide 2" of lift to the truck & the 5100 setting will simply affect the preload or compression based on how much up or down travel the strut has.


Long story short I was thinking that none of the strut settings would change the 2" lift.


Now I have decided to proceed with the 883 OME front coils (which claim a 2" lift) & I will set my 5100's to the neutral 0" lift setting. This paired with my rear 895 OME coils and 5100's should give me a front and rear 2" lift all around.

You actually need to add the setting height to the total lift with the 2" spacers.
i.e. .85" setting on the strut would be 2.85" overall lift. 1.75" setting would be 3.75" overall lift.

Now that being said. People who are installing their lift and measuring before they have their rig aligned properly isn't getting the true height of the lift.
Because the when you lift the vehicle the tires tilt in a arch and causes artificial initial lift. It's only after you have the CAMBER set properly that you will see the true height gained by the lift. (remember using the exact same tires and rims as before the lift)


Make sure any measurements you do for lift? Is done on a properly aligned vehicle. (CAMBER and to a small degree CASTER can change ride height)
IFS Isn't as straight forward as straight front axle.

I didn't mean UCAS in the rear. I meant coils. Up front will be the 6112. Still figuring out that lift to keep it level with 5100s in the back with either 1.75 or 2 coils.

Sorry, don't know too much and still figuring everything out. Definitely didnt mean UCAS in the rear though lol

Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I've decided on the 884 LIGHT OME coils for a front 2" lift paired with my 5100's set to '0' & maaaaaaaybe a pair of the small OME polyurethane 10mm spacers on top... help me decide. I'm currently pretty raked out because I have a rear 2" lift and fronts are 1.75"

Then by all means use the 883's. I'm simply parroting what Toytec has on their website. I honestly don't know if the mounting surface diameters are different between the Gens or not.

We recommend Old Man Emu 90000 shocks (sold separately) to be used with OME coils. 885, 886, and 887 coils will NOT work on stock shocks

That's awesome! Thanks for the heads up but I too have seen literature and I spoke to wheelers off road who reassured me that the 883 front coils will yield about a 2" front lift on a 2010+ 4Runner with no additional front weight. Will report back after I install them & some 10mm top plate spacers as well

Anyone have a pic of 1.75" front, 1" spacer in the back with oem size tires, 265/70/17? Planning on doing this but wont be going bigger on the tires for a while since I bought my ridge grpplers not too long ago.....

Does anyone know what is the largest tire you can use at this height setting without any other mods? I have the black trd 17" wheels.....

This my SR5 on OEM Size hankook dynapro. 1" rear cornfed spacer and 1.75" up front.

I'm currently running my 5100s up front at 1.75" with a 1" cornfed spacer in the rear. I want to increase my fronts to 2.5". What are most people running for the rear spacer at 2.5" up front? Cornfed makes a 1.5" and a 2". I wish they made a 1.75" as that would seem perfect and maintain the same rake I'm currently running.

my fronts are about 2.75". Cornfed will make any size rear spacer you want. Just let them know what size you need in .25" increments. I have tried a couple different configurations - I will need to check but I think I used 1.75" for driver side and 1.25" for the passenger rear.

OME 885/898 on 5100s set at 0 - no real extra weight yet......
No complaints about the ride at all.

Question - I understand you have no complaints about the ride, but what is the ride ultimately like? Stiffer over bumps and ruts and washboards? Easier to take corners in city fast but a little annoying by the time you're done wheeling for a half hour?

I'm not interested in pre-loading any springs for any reason and I fail to understand why even the $4,000 suspension systems for these trucks simply preload the springs instead of offering different height options. I really, really don't get this.

I also didn't realize before dropping $40K on this thing that it rides as rough as my Jeep WJ does on the road... which defeats about 70% of the reason I bought the d*** thing... So, this makes me almost positive that preloading springs up front is simply a bad idea for the type of ride I'm after...

I bought - and quickly sold - a 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 and loved the way it handled and drove both on and off road - the washboards were nothing for that truck (major difference from the solid axles I've been used to all my adult life), and it was very, VERY nice and smooth on road... just so happens I couldn't sit for more than 20 minutes in the driver seat before my herniated discs began flaring up and my legs went numb... 4 runner was the next best option for my needs.

So, I'm after that same cushy and compliant ride quality of the Tacoma, and I think with the KDSS system on this thing, that cornering won't be such an issue given it helps reduce body roll already, and I don't drive like an a$$hole in the city anyways.

All this being said, what shocks are out there, minus the thousand dollar ones, that offer a more compliant and soft ride? Perhaps the BP51 shocks maybe with the 2" lift springs, and maybe a quarter inch trim spacer or something? I guess I'm after the smooth Baja type suspension without going quite to a full 3" in height.

So - any descriptive feedback on the actual ride (soft/hard, smooth/rough, truck-like or Cadillac-like) with the 5100 and OME springs is GREATLY appreciated. I have really liked my OME springs in the past, just not sure about the shocks and I'm not dropping $3500 on some springs and shocks for this DD just yet.

I don't know what you are looking for, as the OEM shocks and springs are about as soft as you can get for a vehicle of this weight. 5100's and all of the other shocks/springs will certainly form up the ride not soften it. Most people add aftermarket to firm up the ride.

Also, the OME BP51 system you referred to will run you $3k+ especially if you add in UCA's.
