Another Bilstein 5100 set-up question(s)

Doesn't the front Bilstein's on their own, set at about 0.85 level the 4 runner? Then, if you add the rear Bilstein's, you might have to set the front's a little higher to get it level. I am thinking the additional rear lift with the new coils may be to high for the front adjustable to compensate. I may be wrong here, but this is what I remember from some previous threads.

Please reread the entire thread. Your questions have been answered, with pics.

I just picked up my truck and the .85 setting looks to be perfect for what I need. The truck still has some front rake to it, but it now looks a lot better.
I only drove the truck a couple of miles, so not much to add as far as handling difference. I will post up some pic`s when it stops raining.

How hard is it to actually adjust the Bilsteins? I looked on youtube & searched on here and couldn't find any video of somebody actually adjusting them.
Any vids or pics?

Thanks

The spring needs compressed and taken apart. Theres different rings you'd place the support for the bottom of the spring on.

Stanleybb50,

You have to take the spring apart to adjust the height? Pardon my obvious ignorance, but that sounds weird and incorrect. Again, if I am wrong, I apologize.

I lowered my Camaro using a set of Koni sa front shocks along with Strano springs, and it looks like the 5100`s are set up the same way; The spring has to be removed so you have no tension on the spring perch snap-ring, which is placed on the corresponding lift position on the strut. The 4Runner may not be exactly the same set-up, but its the same type of design.

I used a spring compressor from AutoZone for my Camaro and did them in my driveway. There was no way I was going to go that route with the springs on the 4Runner.

Yep,he's correct..........., Basically take the CO's back out, remove spring and start the install all over again. That's why the Ultimates,Icons,OW's and now Kings are so much easier to adjust, but thus more expensive. They have an adjustable locking collar so you can dial them in where you want them without taking the CO's back out. Then if you add weight in the front like a winch and/or front bumper ,just add a couple of rounds to bring the front back to where it was. On my Icons, one complete turn equals about an 1/8"+ of height adjustment.

No worries at all. Too bad its not a simple crank like the coilovers. Gets confusing and I only knew that because of all the quality members on here too.

Question to anyone. I'm looking for an inch lift in rear or less. Anyone make a .5" - 1" rear lift. sounds crazy but I think 1.75 at front bilstein all around with a .75" in rear would be perfect.

I did not want to hi-jack the other thread, so here are some pictures of what the .85 setting looks like with no lift in the rear, the tires are 275-70-17 Destination`s. I had a hard time finding some good comparison pic`s of before and after with this set up, so I figured this may help someone else down the road.

It`s not a huge difference, but it was exactly what I wanted, it still has some front rake to it, but it looks a lot better than stock. I do not think it`s going to be huge difference in handling either, but I have already noticed less nose dive during braking. I think the 1.75 setting may actually level the truck, but I was not looking to do that, due to towing a camper.

My next item`s will be a Defiant light bar and a set of PIAA lights and then I am done. I may go with a more aggressive tire when the Destinations wear out.

I don't mind you 'hi-jacking' as this is exactly what this thread of mine was started for (hence why I brought this info over to this one, I hope you don't mind :))

Looks great. Hopefully will be able to get mine done in December (at the rate I am going, arg).

The front still sets lower than the front, but that is the stance that I wanted. I need to keep the truck functional for how I drive/use it, if I did not tow or use the roof rack I would lift it higher in a heart beat.

No problem at all with moving it over here, sometimes people can get funny about jumping into their post. When you get it done post some pic`s up, I would like to see the results.

Yep, those are the right ones.

Those spacers are less than $40 a pair on amazon.

Those shocks are overpriced on that website as well. Can be had new from ebay or ajusa for less than $350 for all 4. And you can can get the front shocks that were built for the 5th gen. Toytec still hasn't made the change and uses the 4th gen shock. Maybe they know something more than bilstein does about shock absorbers. :lmao:

That'll save you close to $100 even if you take Toytecs 5% coupon code into account.

Nice! I checked their website and there are a million different Bilstein 5100 options for the 4R. Do you know the exact part numbers?

Bilstein 24-196499 Front

Bilstein 33-187174 Rear

Those are the part numbers from Wheelers Off Road where I procured my set. Great people to deal with.
