Another LBJ thread.

So, my we took out 'new to us' 4runner to the shop. They said that its a hit or miss with those LBJ's.

Is it worth it to get them changed even if they don't think its needed?

I trust these guys and take all my cars to them...

Just did mine with only 110k. They looked fine, but I drive my family around in this thing and it only took one of these pictures to make up my mind.

plans on lifting it? If you have no idea when if they were ever changed i would just change them. with LBJ it better safe then srry.

Regardless of how they "look" at the moment, assuming you have the original LBJs at 160k — if it was me, I would change them out with OEM ones and not worry about it again for a long while.

I saw this guy a couple weeks ago. It happens more than we think...

New OE LBJs ran me about $90 each for the parts, and the labor to have the shop install was about $250. It depends on your shop's rate, but I think it pays 2.2 hours.

I can't remember what all years qualified, but did you check to see if yours qualifies to be replaced (or if yours have already been replaced) under a recall?

Man replace those things. And use OEM parts when you do, you don't want to take any chances with em.

Just replaced mine with Moog's and have seen a bunch of Moog LBJ failures that have very few miles on them lately, so I will replace mine with OEM asap.

Do replace them asap. Do not use the moogs. If you plan to lift, offroad, or put big tires on, replace with tundra parts (must use the tundra outer tie rods as well).
It took me less than an hour per side to do the outer tie rod ends, and lower ball joints. In the driveway. Then get it aligned.

Tundra Tie rods and LBJs work? Didn't know that. Do you have the part #'s used?
