I'm almost certain, There's no reasons why it wouldn't be direct, the only thing that should be different is the scoop itself, all the bolts and hinges, is reusable.

not one thats linex'd haha. Or it at least does not look like its flexing and bowing.
another plus side of the linex'd hood is i am NEVER blinded by the hood glare.
and the linex is impervious to rock chips.
The hood on my trail does the same, it does not have any extra reinforcement. I am not a big fan of fake air scoops, if people really want to pay money for a trail hood, I would swap.

When the forces applied to the hood exceed the materials Young's Modules all of what we see occurs in the elastic region of the stress/strain curve otherwise it wouldn't return to its original shape........as far at to what can cause this ,its normally caused by wind and the forces generating by pushing the 4runner through the air at highway speeds, could also be flex in the body over uneven roads. HAHA! English translation: the sheet metal is too thin because it saved toyota a nickel.
I'm actually surprised that there is not a common complaint about early clear coat failure on the hood from all the flexing.

Well, I ordered the hood, scoop insert, et al. One question. Did the factory paint the hood with the scoop insert installed? I would think it would be better to paint the scoop insert apart from the hood but I don't know the fit tolerances and would hate for it not to fit together once painted. Hood envy+disposable income=happiness.

You gotta have the hood and insert painted separately. The insert will fit the hood perfectly if it's all OEM parts.
Oh and I think the TE hood wobbles and flexes more than the my SR5 hood.
I swapped an OEM trail hood onto my SR5 a week ago. Absolutely useless but I think it completes the front end of the '14+ T4R which already has a mean fascia and by adding the hood and lower valance it gives it a "complete" and less so naked look. IMO.
I lucked out and ran into a local TE owner who happened to have another oem trail hood in his garage and in the same color as my truck!
