Yup! The shop did an excellent shop. It was slightly bent at the hinge area when the previous owner got into an accident.

HAHA! English translation: the sheet metal is too thin because it saved toyota a nickel.

I'm actually surprised that there is not a common complaint about early clear coat failure on the hood from all the flexing.

Actually thin sheet metal is prevalent on almost any new vehicle today. It's not that Toyota (or anybody else) is being cheap, they are doing what they can to meet CAFE standards.

It's the primary reason the new F-150 is substantially made of aluminum, has a base 2.7L Twin Turbo V6 and so on. (Before you laugh - the twin turbo 2.7 makes 325 HP, 375 FT LBS torque and is within 60 HP of the V8 that is twice it's size. It's also a modular block made of high pressure carbon iron - the same as the PowerStroke and I can tell you they shit and get - we have one in our Edge Sport).

100 lbs and 1 MPG on the CAFE rating makes a huge difference.

So if you drive any new vehicle and are astute - thinner sheet metal is part of the deal. We ain't driving sixties Chevys anymore that you could hit with a hammer and barely dent them.

You gotta have the hood and insert painted separately. The insert will fit the hood perfectly if it's all OEM parts.

Well, I've driven it for a couple of days now in the bright sunshine and have not experienced any glare.

Hi All,

If anyone would like to swap my scooped hood for a flat hood and toss some cash my way, let me know.

2016 Barc Red TE with 16K miles in Los Angeles and would want a similar condition hood. Not especially motivated to hassle with it, I can live with it either way. $100 for the trouble. I'll toss in the OEM bug deflector for an extra $50 if you want it.

Can anyone comment on the hood strut disassembly? Not sure how to go about disconnecting them from the hood.
