1. is it bad to drive with the runner in sport mode? if i put it in sport mode, should i switch right back out after accelerating. i only heard not to switch in or out past 50mph.
2. for 4wd can i switch into 4wd while driving? and out while driving?

What is sport mode?

you can shift from 2hi to 4hi at speeds below 60 mph if you are going in a straight line and your tires are not slipping. You can shift from 4hi to 2hi at any speed going straight without tires slipping. The centre differential can be locked and unlocked while moving forward in a straight line without tires slipping. You must be stopped and and neutral to shift between 4hi and 4lo.

It amazes me how many questions are asked on here that are clearly answered in the owners manual. The owners manual is an excellent reference and full or all kinds of good information. It is really worth reading (several times!). For those that don't have it, it is worth buying check ebay, or as a last resort, the dealer.

Sport mode can be driven anytime. On the '03-'04, 4speed autos the sport mode just modifies the shift points a little to add a sportier feel. If you had a stick and were fooling around you'd hold the gear a little longer prior to upshifting and you'd downshift earlier to optimize acceleration. That's what sport mode does.

:iagree: w/Will on the 4wd question.

No bother at all, I like discussing this stuff. I get a lot out of the forum, so I want to contrubute back as much as I can. It is was more of a general comment/suggestion. I know it can be hard to tell tone from writing. I didn't mean to sound frustrated with the questions.

This is the first I hear of Sport Mode. Now I want to know why I don't have it. Maybe I should go look at my owners manual, but I am pretty sure I didn't see anything in there about it in the million times I have been through it.

well thank for the help will, it is hard to tell tone in writing, so im sorry. anyway, does anyone know how to format a cd so that the title of the songs is displayed when you push the TEXT button?

If you're using Nero to author (create) the disc, double click each wav file that will be on the audio disc. A menu will pop up and from there you can type in the artist and song title information. There's a limit to the number of characters that can be displayed, so of it will be truncated on the radio.

thanks. im not sure what im using. the burner is built into my laptop. its a macbook.

The burning software will have to support the CD-TEXT feature. Nero has this like Uneek said. I'm not familiar with MAC at all, so I don't know how their software works.

I think that the sport mode you are referring to is just driving in 4. If you push the shifter to the left, the truck feels a lot sportier and quicker! I don't think you are causing any problems to your 4Runner by driving it that way, just worse gas mileage.

yes that is what i was referring to. some people call that sport mode. the 04 that i have only has 3 tho :(. the newer ones have 4. i just wanted to make sure it was okay to leave in 3 when driving without causing any damage over time or anything.

You'll be fine. Keep in mind, it won't shift into overdrive in "3". 4 or D is overdrive.
