Guess what I'm doing after work today?

YES TonyB66 this was all because of you :fish:

All due respect your your flu-addled brain ZionXIX it seems we are all talking about the same things, and it's good to get an overall consensus of opinion and experience. What we all agree upon is:

-being gentle and conscientious in our efforts (a transmission hippocratic oath)
-determining "use history" and condition through analysis of recovered fluids
-keeping friction particles in suspension as necessary
-maintaining performance and efficiency through a routine maintenance schedule
-giving our trucks everlasting love :hippie: because givers gain

Good discussion though. I hope this doesnt turn into one of those "bobistheoilguy" threads. Those things never end.

Like I said in my first post, no flame wars :grouphug: okay thanks

Got two of these coming on Tuesday. Less than 18 bucks each delivered, which seem reasonable...

I will cycle through these two gallons, then ponder more afterwards...

It's so easy to do a drain and fill with the drain plug in the pan.

Of the 3 3rd gens two of the 3 needed new drain plugs from the previous owners over tightening the bolt because there wasn't a washer to seal it properly.

Got me a few a doze too

Did a drain and fill on my 2WD trans last night. Only recovered 2.1 qts so that's what I added back.

Went skulking around on the internet, found dis

Noticed my tranny temps shoot up a lot faster with 35" tires and it's also time for draining some fluids. I'll keep this in mind.
Good news, gears are getting closer within reach!!

4WD has a larger pan, I'm in a 2WD with an A340E and have a lower overall trans fluid volume than an A340F

Very well, as long as it reads full on the dipstick. Getting the larger pan goes a long way to promote cooler oil temps.

These transmissions are reliable enough that knowone offers a aluminum deep sump pan in the aftermarket. This trans was also behind the 4.0 in the Jeeps.

Actually, I would be reluctant to use it until someone with a 4runner used it for a ton of miles. I am pushing 178k now, at the p.o I bet had pink milkshake at 110 because the service records indicated, drivability issues....the fix was new radiator and flush trans. All done at the Toyota dealer

that said....I'm afraid to run anything other than the amsoil I am running in it now, with a magnafine filter and a B&M cooler

but if there is real proof it helps our trannys, I might do it ......might.....someday

Yup, I'm aware and I'd I'm gonna crack my pan, why not updrade. I guess I'd need the dipstick and tube too in a pan swap, yeah?

I read that on Wikipedia

I did this last weekend with excellent results. It's a two person job and super easy! I bought 4 jugs of Castrol IMV ATF and did the power steering while I was at it with the remaining 3 quarts (low tech drain and fill vid ).

After, I used a magnet to attract any shaving or debris in the bottom of each milk jug that i drained and found nothing on the magnet. All is well in the world.
Thanks mtbtim

Ths stuff says it's specifically formulated for Toyota and Amazon greenlighted it for my vehicles while it told me other additives were not compatible.

I've got a bottle coming Monday and will report back when I use it

Tomorrow is inline filter install day

Once again, they won't ship to Alaska....

Still conflicted

I recently bought an 03 with 90k on it and I don't believe the tranny fluid has ever been serviced (it looks rather burnt and black). My mechanic recommended I change it but after much research, I still don't know if I should mess with it. The tranny works fine right now.

Do you guys think its risky to do a drain a fill with a 15 y.o. car with 90k that potentially has never had the fluid serviced before?
