Antenna fix

I have Or should I say, I HAD, the Pilot stubby antenna on my truck earlier. Long story short, the snow was covering the antenna and when I was clearing the snow off, I pushed on it and it snapped. Part of it where it screws into the base of the truck is still in there. There is now way to grip it with pliers since it's literally flush to the base. Hopefully I explained it correctly. Any suggestions on getting this out so I can replace it?

VERY carefully try and get it with an Easy-Out... otherwise you need a new base also (which you'd need anyways if you can't extract the mast.)

A little bit of careful work with a dremel and a perfectly fit flat screwdriver might do the trick too

Well I had this prob recently , be real careful or you will just push it further in (me) . I ended up just re-threading it & getting a new antenna . Really you don't want to replace the base , requires a bunch of removing of clips & all kinds of other shit NO BUENO ! Why I just went with my way .

Ya what a ***** man , I had the stubby to some jerk broke mine , downhill from there .

Just took a look at it and there doesn't seem to be much room for error. The metal part from the antenna that screws into the car is kind of loose. Theres just no room to try and get it out easily.

A small reverse twist drill bit might do the job, but make sure you center punch the stub carefully so the bit does not run off center. Also might try a scribe or very small center punch and work it counterclockwise with light hammer.

Is it loose in there? Did this once, take a T25 (or whatever fits over the top of the broken lug) torx screwdriver, put some hot glue on the tip of it (the flat part), stick it to the lug and carefully unscrew it!

You don't even have to hot glue it outside! Put a dab on the tip inside the house, then go outside with a lighter, heat it up till its melted, place over lug and start unscrewing. Might need to re-heat the glue and stick it back on there again if it pops off.

If that don't take it out, then dremel, reverse drill bit or easy out will be your only options.

Same thing happened on my twin's Taco. A small drill bit could be used to get it out, but I'm not sure how my twin has resolved this as of yet.

Fixed it and went back for stock.

There was a slight gap just enough to put some real small tweezers in there and turn. After a couple turns, I just used my hand to remove it.

Good job! I'm happy it worked out for you. It's always a good thing when you do not have to resort to power tools when removing a broken threaded fastener.

^ Yeah you're not kidding!!! The night it happened, I was so pissed and didn't know what to do. I was thinking of how the hell I was going to drill it out. Luckily I didn't have to. Also was lucky that the wife had a set of real tiny tweezers that took it out.
