Cheapie from Autozone works just fine for me. Was going to do the Tacoma whip mod, but didn't want to pay that much for an antenna.
 
I'm not sure how that stubby antenna is going to connect the rest of the antenna wiring. I guess if you don't have a power antenna already, it might screw on, but there's no guarantee that the reception would be any better. If you do have a power antenna and wanted to go with the stubby, you would probably have to replace the base "assembly" anyway...and that's the hard part of the Tacoma Whip Mod. At that point, you might as well just get the Tacoma mast. Buying the parts new is a little pricey, but easy. You could probably get the parts super cheap from a junk yard, and I think most Toyotas with a mast antenna probably have the same setup.
