If someone stole your 4Runner they could get more out of it for the copper than the actual vehicle's value lol.

UPDATE ON THE 5100's

Anyone that has front suspension work done should read this!

First let me say I have been absolutely loving my new suspension setup- 5100's set at 2.5" and rear 5100's with SAW 1.5" coils.

Then, it all started with a BANG(!) and ended today with an "Are you F'ing kidding me?!"

A few days ago I had to brake hard from about 10mph (dog ran in front of me in the driveway) and heard a loud "BANG" from the left front suspension. What? I figured maybe I hadn't set the spring in the perch properly and it finally settled, or something was loose-even though I triple checked everything. So, I took off the front wheels and methodically checked everything I had removed- from swaybar end links to the upper shock bolt. Everything looked great, no rub marks- all in perfect order.

I set about to replicate the noise. I found that if I first braked hard in reverse and then braked hard in forward (all at idle speed) I could get the sound every time. The baffling part was that it would only sound once. I could continue to move forward braking hard over and over with no noise.

I figured it out today. The alignment shop didn't tighten the driver's side lower control arm bolts! I looked at them when I was under there before and from the amount of exposed thread showing, they appeared to be OK. Yeah. They are supposed to be 130 Ft/Lbs which is pretty damn tight. I could turn them easily with a short 1/2 drive ratchet. I'm betting they were just snugged up with the impact wrench by the "Tech" and never properly torqued. I tightened them up and the noise is now gone.

THIS is exactly why I do not let anyone work on my vehicle if I can help it. :flipoff:

I will be visiting the alignment shop on the way home from work tomorrow to have the alignment checked (again!) and have a one on one with the owner.

Hopefully this post will help somebody in the future!

I had some work done to my specialty product upper control arms at High Tech, drove home for 3 hours and then heard the same sound on the drive way. It was replicated exactly the way you described. But my issues wasn't the nut not tighten all the way, my issue was having defective LR UCA slightly shorten then suppose to be. Apparently SPC had made some that are 12 inches wide and they suppose to be 12.3. I got new upper control arms and the noise is gone, but my alignment is not perfect. Well i guess one day i would have to make a trip to High Tech for proper alignment, because those guys are awesome. Sorry Jeff hijacking your thread, i though it was relevant because you described the issue that i experienced too, but slightly different.

Cargo area Fire Extinguisher

Picked this up for $20 at Pep Boys today and mounted it in the back.




I wanted to mount it here, but it required a little bit of Dremel work to fit the bracket properly. The angle of the cut is what's important for a clean finish!








This is how I marked the holes. I through-bolted the bracket with locknuts and washers.













All done! Out of harms way, yet easily accessible and secure. Hopefully I will never need this.

Knowing you, you're probably brainstorming that already, lol
 
I might be able to "find" you some of the aircraft emergency lighting... You could mount in on/in the door sill channel pieces.
 
There is always fluorescent paint, but to quote Sheldon: "that stuff was carcinogenic as hell".
