Gammatronix Battery Monitor LED


Got something in the mail today!











This programmable tri-color LED is really cool. Basically, it completes my dual battery setup. Through color (green, yellow, red) and flashes, battery voltage is monitored. You can set it up in any one of 6 different modes by the push of a button- from basic to more complex with flashes, etc. Cheap, stealthy, and just as good as the expensive systems IMO!

I mounted this in an area that I can see easily when the door is closed (think camping) and at the same time will not blind me while driving at night.


Here are some pictures of the LED in action and my complete battery switching setup. The "other" LED next to the switch confirms when the batteries are connected...

Update to the Gammatronix LED battery monitor.

I love this little LED! What I didn't love was my mounting location.

Usually I think these things through rather thoroughly before I drill a hole in the dash but, as they say, shit happens. The original location up near the vent caused a bad reflection from the LED into the windshield. While these LED's aren't terribly bright, it was an annoyance. Oh well, the fix (barring a new plastic panel) isn't too bad, right? I doubt most people would even notice...the pic shows a glare that isn't apparent in person.







So, to celebrate my errant hole drilling, I ordered another LED, and drilled two new holes. arty:

One keeps tabs on the main battery:left side, the other on my backup battery:right side.

Since the Gammatronix LED's are programmable I have the backup one set to ultra low power mode. It only draws 500 micro amps (nothing basically) in this mode.

Both LED's glow solid green while the battery is being charged, but display differently while being discharged. I can give more info on the "modes" if you guys want it! Pics:

Now that you have been having fun, drilling holes, soldering wires and such now is the time to document. You need to schematically show every single electrical mod that you have installed, and draw them correctly so one of these days you have a reference. You might have done it already but if you haven't, you had better get on it while you can remember what you have done!

If I wanted to have the fogs only come on with the headlights but keep them on with the high beams, would I have to minitap a headlight fuse (in the engine fuze box) and run wire through the firewall or is there a better way, like a headlight wire from the switch?

I don't have access to the 4th gen wiring diagram. Try this:

1. Soldering is always a better, more permanent connection.

2. Spade connectors have a way of coming loose sometimes and then you have to figure out which one went where, lol.

3. Spades would have made the install depth even deeper.

4. I like to solder.


Nothing wrong with the crimp-on spades, they work. Whenever i use them i always squeeze the connector together with needle-nosed pliers first so they fit tighter.

Ps- i just knew you couldn't stay away from a new switch post...
