looking to add dual battery. i don't see a setup in your sig, but even so, being an electronics savant, i hope you could point me in the right direction.

looking to use stock battery as primary and run my ham radio and future inverter off the aux.

i could get any deep-cycle battery for this purpose, correct? was looking at either the odyssey 1500 or 925 (not sure if i need the 1500) or the the sears platinum marine (which is a re-badged odyssey; not sure if i should go whole-hog and get the PM 1 or the cheaper PM2). and connect with the Sunforce 150A isolator(Amazon.com: Sunforce 60113 150 Amp Battery Isolator: Smarthome)

suggestions? thoughts?

I'm looking at this thread, and I'm in awe.

I feel like I've dropped off the face of the earth for a month (and in reality, I just about HAVE), and come back to find Antman taking his rightful place as the king of the mod writeups!

Here's what you all need to know: the only reason my thread was any good is because Antman did all the work and/or showed me how to do anything. This is probably not a surprise. Our system was basically him tinkering with my truck, and I'd write it up. But I always felt like I was holding him back from greatness. (sniff, sniff) Now, I see this (weep)...and I'm so damn proud!

ANTMAN MOD #5

12V Outlet Mod.
This mod allows you to use your factory 12V outlet in two different ways via a switch. The outlet will either function exactly like it does now, meaning 12v power during ignition-on only, or 12v power all the time, your choice. I find it most useful for charging my phone overnight, or charging my GPS for the return trip home…

Yes. This MOD requires cutting, and drilling big ¾” holes :wtf: in Toyota plastic, yikes!! Truth be told- you only have to cut 1 tiny little green wire, and you can put the switch anywhere, so technically speaking-
You don’t need to drill a hole at all. Sticky-tape the switch to your dash, if that’s your thing.

Here’s what you need for the MOD:

The white wire coming out of the hole is another mod for my CB- so ignore that, OK? The 12V MOD is just the switch- that’s it. I also chose to remove the flip-down cover over the 12V outlet. I just plugged in my USB adaptor, which has a built in LED, and I have visual indication of whenever the outlet is powered on.

I've never had a dual setup- so I'm sure he knows alot more about it than me!

Your thread is great because it's honest and witty, and very well written. It was popular before I came along- I'm glad I could add some MODS in between the funny stuff. You have almost 40 freakin' thousand views......!

When I joined this forum, I barely knew how to post pics and writeups. Now I'm hyperlinking, compressing files, making folders,etc. That was because of YOU (and others!), and I am having a blast.

That's what makes it so great!

Sometime soon I plan on doing a full writeup on my Gobi Stealth- including the lighting, how I ran the wiring and switches and all that stuff.

In the meantime, I received my Gobi ladder today I ran into the same problem as alvorbn did during his install. he did a nice writeup on the install HERE

I didn't bend the upper bracket to make it fit. I trimmed a little off with a Dremel and a fiber cutoff wheel. I touched up the bracket with some black Plastidip. It appears that the bracket is used for other vehicles as well(?). The problem is that the bracket hits the driver's side hinge underneath, which won't allow the bracket to sit flush on top of the hatch. I trimmed evenly with the big U shaped holes in the bracket to allow clearance for the hinge.

Here some pics of the underside of the upper bracket and where I trimmed it







You can see how it clears the hinge easily now. (The wires in the pic are power for the rack, and CB antenna)









Everything else worked out perfectly- but here are a few notes that may help you guys out:

** The aluminum strip that sticks to the underside of the rack needs to be placed right on the edge of the hatch, otherwise the set screws won't line up (sorry no pics)

** I bought this stuff at the Autoparts store and cut it to cover the hatch paint under the bottom of the ladder. I stuck the ladder's adhesive strip directly to the clear tape. Hopefully no rubbing (= rust!) for me...

Lighting up the FOG indicator from the FOG MOD



Now everything can go back together. The ground to the LED gets connected to the ground in the FOG MOD writeup, and the hot-lead ties into relay terminal#30.


Here is the result, whenever the fogs are on...

I performed this AWESOME fog light mod this evening (the wiring mod, not the led mod) and have two quick questions for anyone who has done this fog light mod.

1.) My amber running lights no longer work. The ones I am referring to are the horizontal ones next to the fog lights. I double and triple checked my installation and everything was by Antman's writeup. Any suggestions here? Has anyone else experienced this??

2.) Does anyone think that the green led fog light in the dash can work again (without wiring in an led)? In other words, can we wire the brown or black (now cut and worthless) wire from the fog light wiring harness in the stalk to the relay (the #30 pin)?

Thanks so much for the quick (and correct) answer!! I had the e-brake set while doing some of the wiring. So that was obviously an easy fix! I also plan to ground the brown wire today so I can at least enjoy the fog light led while my low beams are on! :thumb3:

Ground the brown wire attached to the little white plug, not the cut wire coming from the fog switch- just wanted to clear up any confusion.
