Any 2014 Owners Can Answer Question

Was in the glove box. Says SXM is on there. Subscription require of course. The sales guys at the dealership had no clue. Said they would ask service.... but I know I don't have it since the shark fin isn't there. Still wondering why its on the sticker if its not installed.

Another thing they said was on it was the Toyota Entune system. Which apparently you have to have a nav system to use...

I have done a lot of research on this issue, and nobody has a clue why it is not on there. My guess is that it is NOT supposed to have XM on the base but someone at Toyota screwed up and listed it as having it. The Entune issue is just as bad. It should not be listed if it won't work on a base model. Please post if you get any new information on a fix or anything you get from Toyota or your dealer for not getting it. Thanks

I forgot to tell you about where the truck came from too... its from CA not TX.. so that's not the reason either... My sales guy is supposed to talk to service today and get back with me. I'll let you know.

Mine says it came from CA too, but if you look closely at the top of the sticker it still says it came through Gulf States Toyota, which is the distributor/port for Texas and probably your state.

My prediction is that your sales guy won't find an answer. That is what I have been faced with thus far because there really is not an answer. The answer is at Toyota corporate.

Service people aren't going to do anything about it. They quoted me 500 for an aftermarket Sirius radio and install. I called Sirius to cancel my subscription and they offered me a free radio to keep it. Just paying shipping....

Unfortunately for us consumers, the Toyota legal minds always make sure the company is covered in these instances.

In my 2008 T4R printed brochure it says at the bottom of the inside back cover, "All information presented herein is based on data available at the time of printing, is subject to change without notice and pertains specifically to mainland U.S.A. vehicles only." I imagine the website has a similar disclaimer somewhere.

I don't know that it will make any difference other than give you some satisfaction, but you might file a complaint on the NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation website against Gulf States Toyota for misleading advertising. About the best they can do is order GST to remove references to XM radio on the window stickers.

I happen to be a lawyer and I am the one who started this thread. All of what you say is true about the website and brochure (they have disclaimers). However, the window sticker is probably another matter. When they put it on the window sticker, that is not advertising. That is what you bought from Toyota. Hang on to that window sticker if you want to pursue it. I probably will not do anything about it personally. I have more important things to pursue.

So calling Toyota corporate to complain won't do any good? Its stupid that they put it on the sticker and its not there. Did they advertise Entune to any of you other 2014 models as well? Which you can't get unless you have the nav screen.

I am a little technically challenged when it comes to gadgets. What exactly on Entune does not work and what is Entune? See I told you I don't know anything about these sorts of things.

HwyChile did you notice how your window sticker was describing SXM differently than the other guy who posted his window sticker?

His said something different about the XM..? i'm thinking that they're all built to accept it.. a receptical port or whatever (XM Ready) so they all say the part you showed in your pic. then if you actually have it, it's listed under options like the other guy who posted his picture and it reads different than what your pic shows.

just a thought/idea i saw from reading the thread. don't get me wrong.. i think its wrong if what i said is right and the salesmen and consumer read that thinking that it has xm when it doesn't..

No. That is 100% wrong. The wording "SXM-Sub Reg" used on the base window sticker for XM is the exact same wording as on the limited window sticker (I looked), which of course has it and does not have it as an option. That wording means it has it without buying anything else. The wording in the advertising is the same as well. As a matter of fact, you cannot buy anything from Toyota to make it work. There is no kit, etc.

I'm not sure of everything it does, but I know you download an app on your smart phone. There are different apps on the truck itself. Looked/sounded pretty cool... but it wasn't available on my model. They just had a flier in the car that was explaining it. Which is dumb advertising to me....

Here is the advertising for the standard Entune that should have come on our base models:

Entune™ Audio Plus — includes the Entune™ 8 Multimedia Bundle (6.1-in. high-resolution touch-screen display, AM/FM CD player, MP3/WMA playback capability, auxiliary audio jack, USB 2.0 port 9 with iPod® 10 connectivity and control, advanced voice recognition, 11 hands-free phone capability, phone book access and music streaming via Bluetooth® 12 wireless technology), SiriusXM Radio 13 with 90-day All Access trial, HD Radio™, 14 HD traffic and weather in major metro areas, and integrated backup camera 15 display.

It looks like it does a lot. I hope mine does all of that (other than the XM which we have confirmed does not work). As you can see, the wording in the advertising clearly says it comes with XM radio. Nobody could read that to mean it does not have it or that you would need to buy something else. And it is the same language as the premium advertising.

Yea see the guy tried to show me how it worked. You have to register online and it wasn't accepting my VIN when i tried. So I'm not sure whats going on.

I would ask for a meeting with the Toyota Representative for your area to resolve the issue. Make sure you tell him it is on your window sticker and don't let them BS you with excuses of why it is not on it.

I received a letter today from Toyota offering me $500 cash or over $600 in subscription credit to SiriusXM. Guess they're trying to make this right for SiriusXM being on the window sticker, and not installed.
