Any other way to ID a V8 besides the badge?

Gotta chuckle at the V8 guys talking about blowing by other drivers on the road. Hopefully you guys are talking about other SUVs, right? I hope so because you're certainly not blowing by very many cars, even with a V8 4Runner. :hello:
That said, I did come across a V8 4Runner driver just the other day who tried his hardest to blow by me when I was in my other car (which is just a 4 cylinder) and it really did crack me up. I almost wanted to shout out my window to the guy to tell him that I'm a 4Runner owner too. But he was too far behind by that time :driving:

The V8 is also the one passing other traffic while pulling a loaded, enclosed, car trailer up hills and mountains on the interstate.

Damn, i thought this was a mustang forum! Of course were talking about SUV's; 4runners actually. Were comparing two 2 ton vehicles, one with a V8 and one with a V6.

My V8 runner is not fast, I owned an Audi S4 Avant with a 4.2L V8 and that car was fast! I love my V8 runner though, wouldn't trade it for the world.

Yes, we are talking about SUV here (it is a 4Runner forum)… But come to think of it, in three years owning V8 4runner I have not come across 4 cylinder car that I couldn’t smoke.:lmao:

There are a ton of 4 bangers that can smoke a v8 4runner tho. Now I'm curious what kinda car the 4 banger was.

I'm certain I could give you and plenty of other V8 4Runners a run for their money in my 04 Honda Accord 4 cylinder.

My last car was an '01 Accord 5 speed. One tenth smaller engine (2.3L). Just traded in 3 months ago. My Sister has an 03 Accord Coupe 5 spd. My Wife has a 3.5L G6. The Runner will smoke them all. Yes, maybe a silly comparison, but still valid and part of why its so fun to drive. (Oh and should add that the v6 runners will blow any of the above away as well - no question).
I love Accords, but even with the quicker 5 spd, not a chance... Just sayin.
Now a turbo VW/Audi or maybe Civic SI, WRX, STI, Evo, and/or probably other 4cyls out there, its not only possible, but in most cases above its a certainty the runner would be chewed up and spit out. Maybe DocMT has something in this league of 4cyl. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions...
And before anyone flames and makes fun of the fact that its an SUV and all that, I still think its 100% something that makes these T4R's so fun to drive. The torque is fantastic and there when I need it. I've been blown away by the power in this thing.

LOL....I don't think so. We were on a two-lane highway that merges into a single lane. He clearly wanted to beat me to the merge; it was quite evident. Wide open throttle is easy to hear when another vehicle is right next to you and you have your window down. But anyway, I didn't feel like getting stuck behind a 4Runner, so I gave my little 4 banger a bit of throttle and walked right by without any drama.
You are exactly right. My car is 4 cylinders, one turbo, six speeds. It's not even what I'd consider a fast car, but believe me when I say it will easily rocket past a V8 4Runner without breaking a sweat. But this is a silly comparison thread anyway. 4Runners aren't made for speed, they are made for just about everything else and they are great vehicles.

Here is my story:
I have raced my coworker 2006 A4 (2.0T) with 6 speed at least 4 or 5 times going home from work about two years ago. He is very aggressive driver and races anything on the road… I normally do not race…. But I do not really like the guy… Anyhow, I can smoke him at any speed (0-40; 20-60) but the biggest “smoking” was happening on the top end when speeds are reaching 90 mph… 4Runner just walks away from A4. No way could that 4 cyl turbo be even close to V8 4Runner…
Week after our last “race” his Audi swallowed the valve and engine was replaced under warranty (I think it had around 40K on it) In my understanding Audi 4 cylinder turbo had many issues and that was the one of them. Good for my coworker it was a lease car… He did not race me after that and he doesn’t race me now in his new BMW 328… he still races other cars\trucks on the road but not me.. I wonder why..:biggrin2: maybe becouse his BMW is not leased...

Cool story, bro....but I think your Audi driving co-worker must not have a clue how to drive a stick shift. His older generation Audi isn't as fast as the new ones today, but it's still faster than a V8 4Runner. And believe me, the 2.0T engine isn't anything to brag about...it's decently quick, but it's not what I consider a fast car at all.
And at speeds of 90 MPH and higher, the 4Runner is at an even bigger disadvantage because it's about as aerodynamic as a brick. Once you approach triple digit speeds, pushing through the air becomes more even more difficult for a 4Runner.
