anybody familiar with the scion tc? reliability etc

Thinking about buying my son a used one for his first car, he's gonna be getting his permit soon. Maybe like an 07 ,they go for around 3k.

A friend of mine has had one for quite a while. Used to be his main commuter, but now is more of a 2nd vehicle. I'm going to see him this coming weekend. I'll ask him what he thinks.

I do know that his complaint (as well as another friend who had one) is that the front windshield being so vertical is a rock chip magnet.

Corolla, Toyota Matrix, Pontiac Vibe = all built on the Corolla platform. My daily driver is a Vibe, which I purchased new in 2009. Have 130,000 miles on it and other than tires, brakes, and other typical maintenance, absolutely no problems. Plan on keeping it until 200,000 miles.

Traded my wife's old '10 in when I picked up my 4Runner last year. Was a great little car for commuting but between the 2 of us we beat the hell out of it. Engine still ran great at 115k though. Just some body damage since my wife can't drive right. :lmao:

Kinda miss it some days when I just need to get to work and back. Plus the fuel economy was MUCH better than my 4R.

All my friends who have had Scions since the day they came out tend to only let them go once they out grow them. I have seen many friends with busted cars with similar age and mileage but the scion seems to bee a nice little hatch/coupe that keeps on going as long as it is maintained.

According to my son they don’t handle very well in the rain. May be something to consider for an inexperienced driver. He totaled his and fortunately was not hurt. He said speed was no a factor. Other than that he loved it and it seemed very dependable.

Sorry. Completely forgot about this thread. I did ask my friend about his Scion. He's got an XB (also just noticed you were asking about the TC). So, as far as the XB goes he really likes it and says it has been a very maintenance-free car.
