Based on the locations I think GWNF is a good central location for all of us. We should definitely get something planning for the fall. How does Mid October sound for everyone?

Oct 15-16?
Oct 22-23?

I was planning on camping both of those weekends anyways.

Whats your thoughts??
 
I have a couple of great primitive site marked as waypoints on my gps that I can recommend. Spots right off the trails with great views. Obviously can't reserve them but to me one of the best parts of GWNF is being able to setup camp wherever you want. I'll try to make one of those wknds in October but between UVA football and the overland rally in Vermont weekends get tight.

Anyone want to make a day trip down to Peters Mille Run in Edinburg, VA in the next couple weeks?

I went camping there last weekend and we were suppose to break in my new ride but we ran out of time. Now I'm dying to get out there! I'm in the Fairfax area and it's a 1 1/2 hour drive down there and gas is CHEAP! I filled up for $3.32 and there was a couple places with lower prices. I also just got a snatch strap, 4 D-rings and a D-ring shackle for recovery gear and I need to justify the purchase. . . and get 'em dirty!

I haven't been to Peter's Mill/Tasker's Gap... Kind of tempted to check it out tomorrow but am worried that traffic may SUCK getting out of DC.
 
I'm definitely down for a day run and possibly camping depending on the weather. It would be great to get a group together.

Any other takers?
 
i could be in, its up in the air right now as I am trying to plan out the next couple weekends and dont seem to have time for it all!

I talked to my buddy with an FJ who has been out there before and he's going to tag along if we go, and if that's ok :)

I have an 8 person tent that might be able to fit everyone too, haven't even used it yet!

Sounds like we've got a critical mass of people interested which is great. Weather tentatively looks pretty good so we'll coordinate more specifically towards the end of the week.
 
I may be down for that as well. 4shoreRunner and I were planning on doing something such as this anyway. Hopefully he will check this even though he is in Canada at the moment.

Before we go on the OHV trails you either need a $5 daily permit, a 3 day pass or a $30 annual pass. None of the Forest Service links I have are working but below are a couple places where we could potentially meet up and get the permits.

Went out to harborfreight and bought a recovery strap, tow hitch hook, air compressor and a few other items in prep for the trip! Getting excited!

What time are we thinking of meeting? I've got about a 2 hour drive + meetup locally with my FJ buddy. Any one of those places for passes will work for me.

Are we camping? I have my 8 person tent, i'll bring it in case and play it by ear.
 
Good call on the air compressor! I have a weak "emergency" compressor but I think a good bike pump could probably fill up a tire faster. I also have 4 D-rings, a 30,000 lb snatch strap and a D-ring shackle hitch. All we need is someone with a hi-lift and we should be good.

I won't be able to go camping but I'm down for a day trip. Do we have any votes for Saturday or Sunday?
 
I was thinking Saturday, 11:00am meetup at Bo's Xpress. My brother will be coming with me and we'll be camping Saturday night. Y'all let me know if you'd prefer earlier or later.

Should be the best of both worlds, not having to get up super early, get a couple hours on the trail, and for the folks not camping, not having to drive home late at night.

As far as recovery gear I have 2 D-rings, 30k lb snatch strap, 20k regular strap. I also have a pretty heavy duty air compressor (Viair) that other folks are welcome to use.

Should be fun, looking forward to checking this area out and meeting you guys.
