You could also bring lights and get a light bar from Seabee. I might do that if I can swing it but I'm about to head on vacation and doubt I'll have much to spend on the truck in the near future...

I know how you feel. I am leaving for vacation tomorrow, so I will be uber broke by the end of the weekend lol.
 
Whoa its good to see some other people from VA with 4Runners. I'm from Richmond, but spend most of my time up in Blacksburg at VT. I have a 3rd gen, and I would totally be down for a wheeling trip!

I work in Salem which is right down the road. I won't have my T4R for a few more weeks but I have my 09 Taco to mess around with. LMK if you know of any good places in the area to do some light wheeling/camping.

Yeah man i do know of a few places along 460. They aren't too intense either and can be done in just a few hours. If you ever wanna go let me know. I've also got a few other people that would be down to go too. I guess the downside is that all are up right around or just past Tech, so I dont know of anything between us. As far as camping, I bet you could set up camp in a few spots, but nothing is designated as a campground.

What up guys...I feel like I'm coming back from the dead...

Very busy few past weeks and weekends...hopefully the dust is starting to settle a little bit.

I'm busy the last 3 weekends in September, but lets start some Rausch discussion or GWNF camping.....or Both!

I also saw in another thread maybe a local meet for us NoVA/DC/MD dudes...

Lastly - Jonseyyy, I am ALWAYS down to mtb - I have 2 very different bikes (regular trek 26er, Gary Fisher 29er single speed) let me know if you want to test any of them out before you make your purchase...there are a lot of decent trails in the area.

Thanks man, I've been casually looking, but haven't decided how much I want to commit $ wise. Thinking a 29er hardtail might be good if I can find one with lower stand over.

You can't go wrong with a 29er hardtail in this area unless you plan to do Fountainhead or Elizabeth's Furnace as your normal trails. I have a GF HiFi Pro and love the big wheels! Let me know if you guys want to ride, I would love to do a biking/camping/wheeling trip to try out Elizabeth's Furnace.

I think I am going to try to hold off on getting a bike until the spring next year. I need to do the responsible thing and bank some cash for a couple months, since I've been quite the spender lately. I do however, have my eye on the Giant XTC 2 29er...looks like a good mix of frame+componentry for the price point.

That is actually the exact bike I was going to recommend. I was going to get it last year but saw an awesomely good deal on a 2010 GF Rig and the single speed really peaked my interest.

Single speeds are sweet! I've been toying with the idea of one for awhile but garage space is a little tight.


Anyone else available for a trip in October? I need some extra incentives to drop the money on OME and some Duratracs.

Seabee - Any progress on the front recovery points? It would be nice to see them if we do a run in October. I'm still interested in a light bar but I'm burning $400+ a month in gas with my new commute and it is dipping into the mod budget a little bit....
 
im in for an october trip. A friend of mine plans to tag along with his s10 he bought in cali when his motorcycle broke down and he needed to get it back here somehow :)

I just picked up an 800w generator on sale from Harbor Freight for $115 with a 2 year warranty in prep for the storm. Our power went out, I left to get it and it was back on when I got home. It will come in handy for camping and Redskins Tailgates, however. I'm looking into tailgate tv setups now.

Either way, I'll have at least the generator for our trip.

TuckerTaxi, where are the pics of the painted wheels? or do I have to wait until october to see them?
 
I'm headed out to bethany this weekend to check on my boat. Haven't picked it up since the repairs so I'm hoping irene didn't cause any more damage. Sounds like fun though!

I actually could be down for Sunday. I've had a crazy week with work/travel and probably would rather sleep in on Saturday than do the crabtree falls thing.
 
Umm... wife's got me booked the whole weekend.... but I will skip out for wheeling on Sunday or Monday.

People that grew up in NOVA telling me about some paths near Fair Oaks Mall, anyone heard of it? I'm skeptical since that area is so developed now.
 
Sweet. Can you off-road crabtree falls? I've been meaning to go hiking down there but I didn't know there were OHV trails.

I'm down for anything - were there areas of GWNF you haven't explored near harrisburg yet, or is it pretty much that one trail you camped off of a couple months ago?

As far as the fair oaks thing....I know there are still some electric line "trails" that I think go through centreville but I wouldn't really want to risk that, haha.
