Anybody running 285/60/18's on a 5gen 4runner?

Anyone got 285/60/18 tires mounted on an 18/9 rim on a 5 Gen 4Runner?

This tire/rim size matches the stock Limited 20" wheel/tire height.

I went to a couple of tire stores, and both said "they would fit". But my questions is do they have issues with rubbing, etc, when in use? I would assume at best it's a tight fit.

NOTE: I don't want to do any mods other than change out tires and wheels.

I just looked at the specs. They're only 31" in diameter. They should fit without modding. The only other 285s that are common on here are 285/70/17 and 285/65/18 both are 32.8" and 32.7" respectively so between their width and diameter require a little fender molding. The only thing with a tire that wide is you want to make sure you are running a -12 offset/4.5" backspacing on your wheel choice. Any 0 offset/5.25" backspacing or any positive offset, you will most likely run into problems rubbing on the suspension (though this information is gathered from what I've read around here and not personal experience).

When I do comparisons using the site below, the only 2 tires that I can come up with that will match my Limited 20's are 265/65/18 and 285/60/18 on 18/9 rims

probably to be safe I should go with the 265's, but I was just curious if the 285's would present a problem.

Gotcha, I overlooked the stock limited tire size thing, sorry about that I was just using the 285 tire size in relation to the SR5 tire size. Like I said before though, if you get wheels with negative offset it will move the rim (and tire) out and away from the suspension so it should mitigate the issue and with it being a smaller diameter you shouldn't have a problem. I'm eventually looking to run 275/65/18s, several people run them on the forum without any rubbing issues or lift and that's a 32.1" tire.

Why not go with a 17" wheel? You will have a lot more options and cheaper.

Hello guys, how about 285/70R17. After thinking about it that's what I will get, I will keep my blackout rims and get bigger tires I guess and save me some money to put in better tires. I keep reading on different threads , Nitto Terra Grappler's. Are they that good ?

I think that you'll find the most popular tire in 285/70/17 on this board will be goodyear duratracs.

I've had my terra grapplers on for about 20k miles now. They still look pretty new if I must say so. I've been through dirt,mud,snow,rocks,gravel,rain. So far no complaints. I've traveled from L.A. Up to Tahoe with little road noise. I feel these are pretty good tires for the price that they offer them for. I've also been on ice with them(there are hardly any tires good for ice).I made it through without any damage. So that said I give them a .

Hey guys I'm new here, and purchased a 2012 SR5 a few days ago. I am planning on going with a Bilstein lift, 3"coilovers front/2"springs in the rear. I am wanting to go with Toyo Open Country R/T's in 285/65-18 on a Fuel Krank wheel with 4.5" of backspace. Do you think there will be any rubbing? I'd really rather not do any trimming. Any thoughts or info is much appreciated.
