Anybody running 4.10 gears with 33" tires?

I have scoured the forums for days looking for an answer to this specific question. I've seen a lot of 3rd Gens with this setup, but I believe they came with 4.10s from the factory? Either way, I've seen a few posts here and there but they are scattered all over the place with no definitive answers.

As the title states, I'm looking for anyone who is using 4.10s in our 4th Gens with 33" tires. I'm looking to get a little bit more low end power back, less gear searching, possibly better MPG (while not a definite criteria). Does this setup deliver better performance in these ways?

Also, I do a fair bit of highway driving, so would 4.56s be a bad idea?

Thanks for the help guys, definitely want some knowledge on this before I drop any $$$ on regearing.

I've thought about swapping 4.10's, but if going through all the trouble I'd just get 4.56 or 4.88 and be able to use 35" tires at some point.

I have v8 with 33's and it's a little doggish due to the gearing also.

V6 or V8? VVTI? 4spd or 5spd? Extra armor weight? I feel no need to spend thousands on new gears with my 33s, VVTI V8, even with some extra weight. But I live in the flat desert of Kansas.

I apologize for the lack of info. I've got the 1GR-FE (V6, VVT-i) with 5-speed auto. I have a Gobi set up, C4 DOM sliders, and keep my trunk pretty loaded with gear and what not. Just feels sluggish in hilly north MS and at my home in Knoxville, TN.

I have a guy in Knoxville that quoted aorund $2000 for front and rear 4.10s, installed and all. Not bad really, just curious if that's worth doing, or just go for 4.56?

Check out ECGS prices, I'm thinking they are cheaper but with install labor it might be the same or more. Now would be the best time to add an elocker or air locker to the rear as well if you think you'll use it. You might wish you did 4.56s if you are planning to add more weight or larger tires, hard to tell though.

4.10 isnt a big enough shift in ratio to warrant the cost of changing them. however with the new 3rd gen tacomas out there are now 4.30 ratio ring and pinions for our 8 inch clamshell diffs in the front to go along with v6 ones that have been around for ever. i think its nitro gear that sells them but i could be wrong. its what i wanted to go to when i was still on 33s, but now that im on 35s its between 4.56s and 4.88s.

as for your question on 4.56s. my dad just recently regeared his 5th gen trail on 33s with 4.56s and picked up a full mpg in city driving and from his limited highway driving since the swap seems to have retained his highway mileage. all the while making the truck actually driveable and it can hold 5th gear on hills now. it made a night and day difference for him.

I have a friend with a '04 V8, running 4.88's with 33's. He was worried it would be too much, but with his armor (bumpers ff/rr, skids, sliders, drawers, and living at 4500'), he loves them.
