Anybody thinking of selling of getting a new vehicle b/c of gas prices?

Quit whining about gas , it's a truck based 4x4 SUV for God sake . What do you expect. I think the 4R gets great milage for what it is.

Gas is not going to get cheaper !! maybe a tempory lapse in pricing but will keep climbing , get used to it.

My damn Escape 4x4 with a V6 and its alot smaller gets 3 mpg more in the city than my 4R V8.

My blown 03 Cobra....well that a different story , rotton gas mpg because of addicting power and givin it hell all the time and I have to run 93+ octane.

For me to buy another car ( even a used 10k one ) and spend decent cash on a decent used car , pay ins., maint ect... it so stupid. 10k can but enough gas to last me 2 years using 1oo.oo per week in fuel. people don't look at that , just how much more mpg can I get , unless you have something that you've had for a while ans it's paid for and you not outlaying out and add'l cash then yes I would drive it .

I laugh at these people getting sucked into buying a hybrid vehicle. To make up for the add'l cost and maaint. of this vehicle you will have to run it over 100k easy to even break even , not to mention the loss you've taken on the gas vehicle you traded in and which if its a truck or SUV you will take a huge hit on it $$$$ wise and there is not much discounts on hybrid vehicles if any bucause the suckers keep buying them up out of paranoia. You be better off buying a small Yota or Scion that gets 30-35 mpg and not paying a prem. for a hybrid.

Sadly, Falls is right. My G500 gets 12 mpg in the city and 14 mpg on the highway. Oh yeah, it requires premium gas. It ain't pretty.

I got 17 mpg once on the highway (to Colorado), but i was also going downhill with winds behind me.

Yeah, it sux to have to fill up @ $60/week. I get about 350+ miles per tank before I have to fill up my 06 GX. However, I offset the costs in my head because I don't have a car payment. My wife drives an 04 Liberty and drives about the same amount of miles as I do/week. Our home is about 1/2 between both of our jobs. We spend close to $100/week in gas. That is about $400/month so that is like two $200 car payments/month. It sux but I can deal.

I've never thought of it this way. However, I would like to slow down depreciation as much as possible.

I won't trade now but at the end of the normal cycle when I trade up then I MAY think about something different. But I really need some utility, even more so than 4wd. If Toyota made a cool midsize sport wagon I'd consider something along those lines. But I don't see anything like that in there pipeline.

I moved downtown so I can walk to work now. Haven't put gas in the 4Runner in almost 3 weeks. I only drive it on the weekends. Forget miles per gallon, how about weeks per tank

Ha, I hear that! I just traded my Vortech 'charged 350Z in on my T4R. Got between 28-30 before boost and about 15 after Ill be driving it conservativly though. I like to beat the estimated MPG rating.

Let's run some numbers here: If you get 15 mpg with your 'Runner and drive it the typical 12,000 miles per year, you're using 800 gallons of fuel. The yearly cost difference between $2.50/gallon and $3.25/gallon is $600/year. Significant, yes, but no deal-breaker for me.

Europeans have lived with $4.00/gallon gas for 20 years, and it's worse than that now. We here in the USA have been spoiled by prices that were ridiculously low by most standards. If Europe can do it, so can we, IMHO.

Actually, Since I bought my 96' integra my insurance went down about 300 bucks every cycle (multiple car discount). On top of that since I drive the teg mon-fri only and the runner only on weekends I fill up the integra about every 2 1/2 weeks and the runner about once every three weeks. Now, when I was driving the runner mon-sun I would fill up once a week. It costs me $30 to fill the teg and $60 to fill the runner.

Another trick too with insurance... since I drive the integra more than the runner my 6 month premium for the 4runner is around 250 for 6 months. That is because I am driving the cheap/older car more. The premium for the runner is less than the integra! And that car is 8 years newer than the integra.I saved alot that way.

moral of my story is approx 240 bucks for driving the runner a month or approx 90 -120 for driving a combination of cars for the month yeilds savings anywhere from 150 - 120 per month. Oh, and did I mention that my insurance dropped 300 from buying my second car?

yeah, I forked out 4800 for the teg but after all is said n done I like the fact I can drive a sporty little standard on the streets then go off roading by the weekend. Best of both worlds and in my mind I still save on gas

I keep hearing about people buying a second car like the above mentioned Corolla. I'm a little confused by this.........wouldn't the cost of getting a cheap second car, even with much better gas mileage, negate any savings at the pump?

I agree, If you buy a nice car enjoy it. Dont let it sit in the garage and just admire at it once a while. Why buy a nice car and spend most of the time driving a shit box, it just doesnt make sense to me.

I put about 3000kms (1800kms) a month on my truck. I knew what I was getting into when I bought the V8. Granted, I don't jump for joy when the tank is empty and it costs me $80 CDN to fill it... but its part of the cost of operating an SUV. My truck is paid for, so maybe its a little different for me. I bought it to use it, so even if gas was to take a significant jump, its not going to stop me.
