Anyone bypassed the DRL'S????

Ive tried a search but i havent seen a thread where someone has actually done it, if you have or you know someone that has im looking for some fisher price type directions on "how to" bypass the damn DRL's , i saw some threads with links but they were hard to understand seemed very general and had no pics or any tips/tricks to make things easier. This is one of the first things i want to do.
Anyone here done it????

I have mine disabled, you just cut that one wire, the black and yellow one, and your done, easy as hell.

it seems that thread is mainly for the 01-02 models, it said somewhere that the 00 had some side effects, i am not sure if he was able to do it succesfully on an 00???

Here is the 2000 TSB for DRL disabling. Its very simple.

When I first bought my '00 the DRL's were disabled. I found that they were just unplugged at the front of the car on the drivers side. Grey Connector in front of the battery. This might be easier...

Yeah, that is the DRL resistor. When the day time running lights are operating, current flows from the head lights through that resistor to ground to complete the circuit. It definately works, but all the rest of the DRL switching system still operates. The Toyota method stops the system at the begining.
Personal preference I suppose....

OK so its done......

It took me about 45min tonight and i bypassed the DRL's by disconnecting the gray plug under the hood, i then did the fog light mod so now they work with the parking lights on and also dont cut off when the high beams are activated.

Damn it really sucks that we have to "modify" factory wiring to get the lights to operate like they are supposed to. I would like to find out who decided that i am required to operate the headlights in order for the fog lights to work, i think i am capable of making my own decision on what lights i want on.

Hehehe... i know what you mean, but thats why we have laws and standards in the world.... there are too many dumb f#$ks out there who make bad choices.

There are no laws in the USA that require DRL's or that fog lights are only active with headlights on, so i have no idea why toyota/lexus would make them like that, at least now they are starting to put a DRL OFF switch on them from the factory. they should still allow fogs to be on with markers though, most euro cars do (BMW im sure does)

Check your state rules. Many places do in fact require fog lights to only operate when the highbeams are on. Its part of the state inspection criteria here in PA.

It's actually fogs operate when highbeams are off and DLRs are being mandated all over the rest of the world so Toyota just desings them that way for all countries and has been proven to be safer.

I did the foglight mod on mine so I can turn my fogs on anytime even w/o the parking lights on.

Open up your hood and look to the right of your battery, its a small box with a couple of wires running into it, you can follow the wires from it into the headlight harness on the driver side, just unplug it and no more drl's.

If was using normal headlight bulbs I wouldn't mind, but I am using Silverstars that cost $25 a piece. So the longer I can make them last the better.

Outside of this thread there's just a ton of talk on what to do e.g. cut the wires, install a switch once you cut the wires, and then there's that whole light press the brake pedal while slowly let down the parking break.

I don't like cutting wires, not installing no switch, and the parking brake is just bogus at least on my model year.

When I go stargazing (i.e. telescopes) you customarily turn off the headlights and cover the tail & brake lights if you drive in when it's dark and when you leave otherwise you a crapload of angry a** people p'od at you that wouldn't mind punching your lights out. It takes awhile for your eyes to get adjusted to the darkness, and you get hit with a crap load of light it can take another half an hour to get your eyes readjusted to dark. :bash:

I don't know what everybody else's reasons are though.
