Anyone come from Land Rover? Or G-wagon?

I used to buy all my cars on 72 month terms. I won't go over 60 months now that I'm older, wiser, and a bit better off than when I was fresh out of school. I can't imagine how kids fresh out of school can do it these days. Salaries are going down and car prices are going way up. A freaking Subaru outback is starting to push $40K if you option it up.

They don't mind living paycheck to paycheck......

Land Rovers are complete junk, end or story.


And as much as I love my 4runners, it can't be compared to a G-Class as already pointed out. The G-Class is far superior to the 4runner in every way, but it is also WAYYY more expensive. They are way more rugged and durable as well, and if you know Mercedes well, you'll know they don't share the past reliability issues with the ML, as they're hand-built in a special factory in Austria. The frame on a G-Class is seriously industrial grade, larger than a 1-ton diesel truck probably, and it could handle a beating that would turn my poor 4runner into a pile of bolts on the side of the road.

I think it's tough to compare the two, but one thing is for certain, I'd love to have both.:dancin:

I think the actual use would suggest the opposite. If you took a brand new G wagon and brand new 4runner and ran them every day in the Serengeti or every day across the Rubicon the 4runner would last longer before one of them stopped working. Of course the LC70 is *the* vehicle in that market around the world. Everyone else is an also-ran including the G wagon. There's a good reason there's practically zero G wagons out in the Serengeti nor are there any many land rovers. It has nothing to do with cost. An LC70 in Tanzania is the same price as a G350d.

Used LX570 or GX460 - Toyota reliability with enough of the refinement that comes with a luxury vehicle.

I owned a new discovery (2001)II base model SD nice strong vehicle but very weak brakes!
also a RR sport 2006 ( used ) , great vehicle but horrible air suspension kept on sending me weird messages on the screen and lowering itself....

I have also owned a Land Cruiser 03 and a 05 both used and also a FJ new.
never driven a G Wagen but they are fantastic vehicles with factory lockers.

I know land Cruisers , I used to drive them in the middle east in the late 70's they are indestructible

personally I would get a 2013 slightly used Land Cruiser but if I really start thinking about it my current SR5 basic is fantastic,4WD , no sunroof, cloth seats reasonable power and big tires.

The whole reason I'm now in a 4Runner is because of my previous SUV, a 2008 LR3. That thing was supremely capable off-road, but it squeeked and rattled from day one. I never had any major mechanical problems. But, the minor issues were endless. There was always something wrong with it. Always. And when I say that I didn't have any major mechanical problems, that doesn't mean that the repairs were cheap. Everything is expensive on it. After a while, it just got annoying.


I'm very happy with my Yota. It just works and doesn't complain. Sure, it lacks the "prestige" of a luxury brand. But why would I care about impressing strangers?

The only thing I really miss about the LR is the air suspension. It was a fine, fine ride.
