Anyone else with BP notice tiny little rust speckles in the paint?

I just washed the 4R today since it's nice out, and noticed there are tiny little rust speckles all over the paint. Moreso on the back half, but I don't understand why.. It almost looks like "industrial fallout", but I highly doubt that since I'm pretty careful about the car.
I'm sure I can clay bar them out and wax it and they'll be fine, but I don't want any issues down the road.

I've been getting them on my silver LE too. They seem to rusting pieces of debris that get stuck on the paint. They're pretty stubborn to get off but are able to when I use some elbow grease and a wet microfiber towel.

Yep, I got the same thing going on. Its on the back of my truck,,,I can get them off with microfiber towel too but I'm concerned about this for the future.

Yeah, I have them as well on our BP. There are a few other threads laying around that have mentioned it. I haven't tried to get our out yet (haven't had a chance to do the big spring wash/clean -- maybe this week with temps in the 50's), but heard that a clay bar will do wonders for it.

I had that on my silver sr5. It came off when you rubbed it really hard. I was afraid that would scratch the paint so I brought it to the dealer. I think it was just from trees, but it did look like rail dust. They told me to polish it and now its gone.

Thank you- absolutely wax/polish after claying as the clay will remove all wax.

Yes I have it to, A little elbow grease and wax removes it.

No elbow grease is needed if you use clay.

This is a miracle solution that I never used before until I owned a white vehicle. Just make sure you follow the directions. For example, if you drop the clay bar on the ground, do not use it (or make sure you remove any small stones or else you will scratch the paint when you reuse the clay bar). Also, make sure you use a good spray wax when using the clay bar and use lots of it. The paint surface must be very wet in order for the clay bar to do it's job. Without a lot of "lubrication," you will see parts of the clay bar stick to the paint and then you have to remove it as well.

Because I own black, I cannot see the rust marks, however I KNOW they are there. After every winter, I use the clay bar and I did this last year on my 4R and the surface was smooth like it was when it came from the factory.

On the Honda Ridgeline forum (where I spent the last six years) almost every white and a few silvers complained of the same thing: Little rust specks. So it is not a toyta-centric issue. I just used a cleaner wax.

I had thousands of metal rust specs on the top of my 4Runner, then a bunch on the plastic spoiler, the rear hatch, in the area where the hatch hinges are and a couple on the side above the rear windows. I used a clay bar, took me quite a while but I ended up just claying the whole 4Runner. Looked brand new when all said and done.

I didn't notice these specs of rust until I was installing the bolts in the roof after removing/selling my Bajarack.

I agree with the rail dust comments. Every car in every color has it, but it is much more noticeable on lighter colors.

Has nothing to do with rust of your own paint/body.

Its just road contaminants picked up while driving that are causing the "rust" look.

They'll claybar right off - used to get them all the time on my white S2000.

I've seem them on all of the vehicles I've owned that were light in color. My gray Suburban, then my white Expedition both had this issue. I was told that it could be brake dust from metallic pads.

My 4runner is black. But, if I look very closely, I can see the specs.

Wow, great to hear that. I did end up using clay bar on it just after I posted this topic. Upon further inspection, I noticed it on some of the plastic pieces of the car as well.

Tiny rust marks!

So I took my white 2004 Toyota 4runner SR5 V8 to the car wash to give it a much needed bath & as I'm drying it, I realize my SUV totally copied my 2012 summer swimsuit choice & like me decided to 'wear' polka dots! Trendy for the beach, not for my ride! There's 100's of tiny spots that appear to look a lot like rust, mostly located towards the rear end. Thanks for the tips you guys! Besides that love everything about my 4runner.

I believe it may have to do with metallic brake dust settling on the finish and then rusting from exposure.
