Yeah no other vehicle I've used has made that sound. I'm right there with you. I could be a Rhode scholar and the keyboard commando's would still say I'm an idiot for leaving my engine running.
Other than having my car stolen, I haven't seen a good reason to turn it off. I haven't spontaneously combusted yet! Biggest risk of an explosion is static electricity, and whether the vehicle is running is a moot point with that. Ignitions have come a long way since the 30's and 40's. The risk of an ignition with the distance between the engine and the tank, combined with the vapor recovery nozzles pretty much every station uses nowadays makes that next to impossible.
Different strokes for different folks.
A Rhode scholar might leave their engine running, but a Rhodes scholar certainly would not.
