Anyone getting 19+ MPG ?

Getting 19-20 MPG with a V8? 30% better than the updated EPA estimate?? Very unlikely. Maybe the computer says 19, meaning ~17 actual - THAT I would believe.

I mean, think about it - the V6 owners have verified that it can reliably get 19-20 actual MPG with some moderate fuel saving techniques in mixed driving. So how does the V8 - which is making way more torque, more HP, is heavier, has two more cylinders and all-time 4WD - get the same fuel economy as the V6?? It doesn't add up.

First of all thanks for all the posts everyone !! I think the biggest thing is driving techniques. I can get over 20mpg highway going 65-75. I dont have cruise on, I accelerate slowly, when I hit an up hill I let it slow down to keep rpms below 2, I accelerate into downhills for approx half the downhill then let it coast back down to 65-70 and keep it steady. Anticipate breaking to minimize the usage in general.
I drive 50 miles to the area I work, then drive 60-90 Miles around town/suburbs then 50 miles back home. So ive been trying a lot to squeeze extra percentages of mpgs !!! When I drive like that my computer says 22.4-23.5- Interstate- Dry Warm- worn down (not bad, just not new) firestone destination a/ts 265/65/r17 at 40 PSI !!

It gets so boring though!!! lol so every few days I blast it. Cant wait to get a Camry Hybrid so I can not worry about what tires and lift combo I have !!
Took it up in the mountains yesterday!! Love it!

Theres no real "city" driving in Tahoe. I drive in 35, 45 and 55 zones and i consistently average 18.3 calculated, not computer. When im on the highways doing 65-75 i can average up to 22mpg if i try. The V8 has so much power i find myself not using it and staying under 2k all day. MPG depends on the drivers personality and driving habits.

How can my friends dodge 3500 lifted with 37's and the 5.9 average close too 28mpg? Its 4 tons! Add that up for me.

On the last trip I took of 150 miles ,which consisted about 35% city 35/45 and 65% open road 65/75 I got 22.7 MPG according to the onboard computer.

My onboard computer is at least 3 mpg optimistic. Compute it by hand (miles driven divided by gallons pumped) and then tell us what you get.

He's mistaken or lying. There's no way in heck any heavy duty pickup will get 28 mpg stock, let alone lifted and running 37s.

without using cruise control, averaging around 74 MPH, I got 23.8 MPG

on winter grade:

Observed so far: computer says 21, but EVERYONE here knows that translates to about 19mpg. I've been hand calculating (miles/tank divided by gallons added) and lately 18.2-19mpg.
highway: IF travel @ 60mph : 24mpg

how in the world you V8 guys are getting these numbers is beyond me, like 12guns said, are you running them downhill in neutral? lol. whatever yall are doing please share with me! unless you are just going by the on board computer, which tends to be 1-2mpg optimistic, that would make more sense. cause my 07 SR5 2WD V6 i get 16 in the city, and 19-20hwy going 75-80, which seems about the normal for the V6

I average about 18.5-19 in the city and on the highway I get about 20-22.5 (thats at 55-65mph). Just did an oil change about 1k miles ago. Also just changed out the plugs with some Denso Iridium 100k milers. Before that, was getting about 15-16mpg as an average. Best money spent hands down, love saving money on gas with the V8.

Since I bought my truck in December, my overall average with the previous owner included started at 16 and is now almost 19, I reset 1 and 1/2 tanks of gas ago and my average for that has been 20.5 +/-

Pushing 23.4mpg. Mostly open road and rarely any city driving in between 55-65mph. I drop down to 21-22 if traveling or hwy driving excess speeds of +70mph

On a 2500 mile road trip I was getting rock steady 19.5 mpg on the highway at 70mph calculated by hand.

21 or 22mpg on the highway when on the 55-60mph highways.

15 or 16mpg in town is pretty typical for me.

Tires and lift always play a part in peoples numbers too, my numbers are on factory sized 17" Revo 1s with about 80% tread and no lift.

07 V6 4WD Sport Edition with a 3 inch front spacer and rear springs with 31's and im getting 17mpg. Mostly interstate but I live in Atlanta so typical interstate speed is 80.

I am averaging 19 - 19.5 calculated over the last 3 months. It has all city driving daily, dallas rush hour traffic and at times driving 80+. Did I say I have 2WD and running 265/70/17 Bridgestone HT.....
