Anyone gone with an Old Man Emu OME lift?

About to pull the trigger on the 885/superflex kit. Curious what you guys with 285s ground to fender measurements are. I want to get a comparison with my current Daystar kit. Also, is it worthwhile to pay Toytec the $100 for them to come assembled? Seems it would be worth the extra money to install the lift in an hour or so.

This is what I was quoted for a 3" OME lift with light duty front (no winch or bars) and medium duty rear (constant 440-pound load to prevent sagging).

Better have some decent weight in that thing or you'll get beat up.

I'd call toytec and have them get you the 884 w/ superflex rears.

Lift kit went on before I saw this post. Drove it to Reno this past weekend. And I did get beat up. Taking 2 days off work just to recover. Holy shats!

Dealer promises that it will soften up after 3k miles or so. I sure hope he's right or else I'm gonna need a visit to the chiropractor every time I take this baby out.

I've got 35k on mine and the 884's are still pretty stiff. I'd find some toytec superflex rears and have them swapped which without weight feel stiffer. Part of irbid movingly to LT (D) tires also.

Hmm, I ran the OME 898's without any weight in the rear for about 15k miles. I did not think they were that bad. Maybe on large speed bumps they were a little harsh, but not a deal breaker.

I went with the 898's since I knew I would eventually be putting on a rear bumper. I did not want to have to install new springs when I added the bumper. I must say, now that the CBI rear with swing out has been added, I am glad I went with these springs. They handle the extra weight beautifully, and there was minimal sagging. They ride great now too.

So, if you plan on adding a bumper or carrying a lot of weight, I would keep them. If you don't, I would trade for the 889's. These OME springs give 3" of lift with the recommended weight added. I believe the Toytec super flex only provide 2" of lift so keep that in mind.

Trade 'em in now if you don't like the ride...

I put the same front combo and the "Medium" 889 rear coils & 600803 shocks on my 2011 SE5. Had asked the guy to use Toytec Superflex Coils rear but he went ahead and ordered the OME 889s (and also told me they'd settle).

Got 2.25" front lift & full 3" rear, not counting tire size increase, unfortunately giving me more rake than factory. Now wanting to bring the front up another inch or two, just not sure of best value way to do that.

I had 60K mi when they went on, and 10K mi & many loads hauled later they still ride stiffer than I'd like, even with 3rdRowSeats (I assume that's slightly heavier than a tray) and a full tank of gas.
Handles a load beautifully, but needs one to ride comfortably. And yours are even stiffer.

Trade 'em in now if you don't like the ride, IMHO.
Also, consider adding the front diff drop kit. I haven't had any joint troubles yet, but can't help but think 2.5"-3" lift on this front suspension will wear them more quickly.

I am thinking about a swing away bumper to fit a full size spare now that I'm running 285's.

Just not sure when that's going to happen. And I didn't level it out because I still want to tow without using air bags.

I'll bear with this set-up for now. Since I do see a car-top tent in my future as well.

I would keep the heavy springs. You will get used to it and be much happier when you do add the weight/tow.

Those 60081 shocks he used are brutal if you don't have a TON of weight back there. I think if he switched the 60081 shocks to 60080 shocks, he'd be happier.

I've ran the 889 & SuperFlex. Originally ran 889 with 60080 and it was a good ride not too harsh. Then switched to SuperFlex with 60080 which was very good, not harsh at all. Then I added the rear bumper and the SuperFlex kept the height well, but there was a lot of felt compression when making quick maneuvers (at speed). Switched back to the 889 with 60080 (with rear bumper) and am extremely happy with this setup.

Springs make a difference for sure (those 898's are stiff) but I also think those 60081 shocks are creating a tooth chipping ride!

The springs have softened a lot in the past week. I'm starting to like them more now.

I hit some uneven pavement on the highway and it absorbed the bumps pretty well. You can definitely tell that the shocks/struts on are doing their job. If the springs will just soften up some more, it might just turn out to be the perfect mix of on and off-road for my driving preference anyway.

Does anyone know how the OME 898 might work on a 2015 LE with the x-reas?

Currently running the Daystar leveling kit which looks and rides great until there's any weight in the back. When we go camping I have to be sure to load as much of the heavy items toward the front of the Gobi because the sag in the rear can become so bad it feels like I'm nosed way up in the air with little control over steering. Three large dogs in the back and my girlfriend's bag usually doesn't help either.

My local shop suggested removing the spacer and installing the OME heavy duty 898's but our major concern (as always with the LE's) is that it will interfere with the x-reas. Any insight would be much appreciated.

I have the 898 but I have a Trail (w/o KDSS). However, I've seen people install the 899's on trails with the KDSS with no issues. I'm not too familiar with the difference between the KDSS/X-reas, but I don't think they are that different and should be fine.
Side note the ride will become harder if you don't have any permanent weight on the back.

problem your going to have is the rebound of the X-Reas isn't valved correctly for that much down pressure or extension. I wouldn't do it... you'll wear those things out really fast with that much spring on there. Not to mention those spring are so stiff, really made for a constant load not a weekend camping trip.

If your dead set on keeping it then you need to do sway-a-way 1.5" springs or the helper air bags from toytec. Air bags seem like the best option.

Wouldn't adding the 898 coil put the same pressure on the suspension as the daystar spacer lift that yields roughly the same amount of lift?

Doesn't work like that. The daystar spacer is just changing the mounting point of the spring down 1.5". The 898 is adding spring rate/length.

After a few weeks, I finally figured out why they were so stiff. The idiots that installed my lift kit left the tire pressure in all my tires at 50PSI. I brought them back down to 34psi in the front and 32psi in the rear. It's just a tad stiffer than I would like but holy cow what a difference!

I'm liking it more and more everyday. Due for an alignment now. I think the new suspension has settled enough. Will probably take it next week.

if you have E-load, LT tires they need more air pressure. they don't need 50, but certainly more than 32.

I've been monitoring the tire pressure and wear.

At 35PSI, the tire wears down the middle too much.

At 30PSI, there isn't enough sidewall support for normal everyday cornering.

I found that 34 Front and 32 Rear is a near perfect balance for my configuration.

I've been checking the tires twice a week.
