Anyone hang a hammock from their vehicle?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if any of you have ever, or have pictures, or you hanging a hammock from your rig. Whether it was in your backyard, or camping. To a tree or a stand...

just curious, looking for some ideas.

I do it all the time.

When I get around to building better bumpers, I'm going to include a place to slot a piece of DOM sticking out the side so I can hang without needing a tree at all.

I am trying to figure out something so the hammock is tied to the vehicle on one side, and using something else where I don't have a tree.

The easiest way would be an angled chunk of inner hitch steel slotted in your rear reciever. But I'd like to figure something so I can hang along one side of the truck instead.

but I am envisioning tying off to roof rack (or door frame, or whatever), and hanging hammock off the rear, or perpendicular to side doors.
I could tie to a tree if there is one there, but I am looking to build/buy/whatever some stand, that can be free standing... for just one side of hammock.

Take a hammock stand. Cut it in half. Stick it to the rear of your truck using your receiver hitch. Run one end of your hammock to your roof rack, and the other end to the hammock stand arm.

Drive a T post into the ground and tie off to it. That'd work anywhere except solid rock.

Been thinking on this too, don't want to bend a rack support or fray up my tree straps on metal. Googled it and found this:

I actually stumbled onto that website a few days ago. All of those stands are portable in the sense of potentially in my backpack.

The Handy Hammock struts look promising. They also have a setup if you only need one (incase you have a badass 4runner you use for one side). Most likely I will be going with that or something like it.

I hung one from my Baja rack mount post, but I think it was probably a bad idea...worked like a charm, but made me nervous that I was dislodging the silicone in the mounts, and thus worried me that it might cause it to leak...

I hang my Eno hammock from my roof rack to trees all the time. Even done it between me and my roommates ARBs. No pictures unfortunately, love my hammock though!

I'm very interested in this! My wife and I just came back from ten days of sea kayak camping in Brazil. We slept in, oddly enough, Brazilian hammocks. When set up properly they are extremely comfortable! Though its hard to snuggle when everyone has their own hammock...
