So my wife drives a 2011 Rav4 (the V6, which is actually a hell of a sleeper car - it can get up and move like no other non-sports car I've ever driven). She's at 31k-ish miles and all of a sudden the brakes start making really horrible groaning, wavering, and sometimes grinding noises, especially when it's cold. The pad depth is still fine (8mm IIRC), no debris (which they would have found during the 30k service which we've had done since), and no answers. The TSBs on the pads are all over the place and seem, at least to me, to contradict themselves on that vintage of the Rav4. The dealer seems to just think that the pads are crap and that we should replace them early (outside of the service contract we have, of course), but this seems odd given that we're still well within normal operating depth and there aren't any other problems.
Any ideas?
