Wow, that dude even provided instructions, pretty kickass seller.

These are a cool little feature, but overall pretty unnecessary. Fun to have though, and pretty unique in the states.

I love my FMU - then again, I am Canadian and so the temperature units (along with altimeter and barometer) are all easy for me to read.

Easy to install, look great, definitely missed having a temperature display when I drove it without one. Very nice to have when driving in the winter around freezing temperatures (0°C for all you 'Mericans).

you jack-wad i was gonna buy that!... man i had even asked the wife too..... naw its ok you beat me too it and im just glad it went to a member, besides, i probably shouldnt be spending any money right now, work just cut me from full time to "on call". so yeah, enjoy your new toy and post pics so i can be envious

Haha, yeah, it is nicer for you zany metric folks. Actually the temp is the one function I like the most for just that reason.

The compass has trouble holding its calibration, so that is kind of annoying. I don't want to constantly drive in circles to calibrate it. The altitude gauge isn't accurate at all.

It is still cool though. I like having it.

Saw this FMU on eBay JDM Toyota Hilux Surf Field Monitor 4Runner Altimeter Compass Outside Temp for sale. Get to bidding, the sale ends in a few days.

On a side note, I just bought two FMU's (both sunroof compatible). One is the basic FMU and the other is the ultra rare GPS enabled FMU. I didn't want anyone else other than a T4R forum members to have them, so I bought both lol. I'll be selling one of the two in the next month or so.

Good luck on the one for sale on eBay!! It's also sunroof compatible!

Easy to install.

How so? Maybe you mean just placing it in the headliner? That only takes one screw and the unit is a direct replacement for the one coming out...

However, no N/A car is wired for the unit, so one must run lengths of cable to:

1: ABS unit in passenger footwell for motion control.
2: Back of dash clock for proper dimming at night
3: Front of engine bay and purchase the correct temp sensor.
4: Steal 12v and ground from overhead lighting.

Mine didn't come with any sort of harness so I had to make my own pinned connectors to interface with every wire.

Not to mention swapping over the lamp switches and sunroof controls plus figuring out the calibration procedure for the compass.\

It's a fun project and very rewarding but I don't know anyone who would call it easy to install....

That screen is hammered! But if it goes for cheap it may be worth it.

As for install.. I wouldn't use the word hard.. I would say tedious!

Hey @Chim, or anyone who wants to weigh in on the following questions, do you know how to wire up the GPS FMU? I read through the Yodatech guide as well as Blcktpgsr and 4Ripcord's tutorials, but they all installed the basic FMU's. I'm curious if the wiring between the two is the same or if the GPS functionality forced Toyota's hand in changing wire colors (I don't see why it would) and of course adding an additional set of wires for the GPS capability. I realize that utilizing the GPS function is not an option as it will only work in JPN, but I'd just like to wire it and see how it looks in my headliner. I don't have the unit yet but when I do I'll take pics of the components and perhaps post it in a new thread. Like every other post on this topic has stated, I've search online for hours trying to find a factory service manual for this FMU but have not found anything. My supplier even told me that he doesn't have a wiring diagram because this unit is very difficult to find thus making the diagram even harder to find. Thank you in advance for any tips/tricks/advice!!
