Anyone running 255/80/17 Tires Pizza Cutters

Thank you for posting those pics right away.

Are you sure those are 255/80's? They don't look any different than stock tire size. They don't look any taller anyways.

edit; Now I see they do look like other pics posted of the same tire size...my bad.....Truck looks good btw, almost got Mag Grey myself.

That's interesting, the "tire fitment guide" shows 255/80's measure 33.06". Maybe this is why you are getting no rubbing as your pic shows its a half inch less than that. Thanks for the new pic Shai.

I read somewhere these are only 32.8". I remember when I got them mounted, they almost didn't look any bigger than the stock Duelers. But the treads were so deep and huge!

I ended up going with 255/80R17 Toyo RTs. I also had a 3" OME lift installed at the same time. So far, I couldn't be happier. It rides great and the tires aren't noisy and ride pretty well. I'm still playing with pressures a little but in the mid 30s it rides great. The weight is noticeable but, mostly because I was looking for the difference. The power in the T4R is underwhelming to start with so...

You pretty much always count on losing 1-1.5" height when mounted on the rim and vehicle.

I'll recheck when I get home, but I think my 255/75 Maxxs were right around 31.2-31.5"? About .75-1" or so taller than stock, so the 80s another inch taller seem right.

For perspective, the 35s I had on my JK measured right at 33.5". The elusive 34x10.5 BFG A/Ts measure around 32.3-32.5" mounted from what I've read, so they are very comparable to the 80s, which being lighter and d-rated (although much more expensive).

255/80r17 Cooper ST Maxx

Mounted on TRD ORP rims. '17 Limited with Daystar 2.5/1.5 and Spidertrax.

Minor rubbing at full lock driving forward (mud flap, removed, problem solved)

Minor rubbing at full lock in reverse, just needs the fender liner pushed forward a bit, will do this weekend.

I put on 255/80 Toyo Open Country AT2s in E-ply. Needed minor front fender trimming after a 2" lift. Cornering ability has decreased and the ride is stiffer, but oh well, they are really good.

Toyo

Hey 4boer2, I’m looking into those same tires and just ordered a 2.5 inch front 2 inch rear lift from dobinsons. How do you like those tires? What tires were you
Coming from that makes you say they are stiffer. Any chance you could post a pic of your setup?

I'll preface this by saying these are some kick ass tires that give you a definite feeling of security when in the mountains/off road.

Just a heads up for anyone researching these tires:

I love the look and performance, but the pull to the right with them is a pain in the ass. I'm going for new tires this Tuesday, gonna try Pro Comps. The pull is fairly decent and occurs regardless of the road crown. Obviously on roads with a decent amount of crown it gets worse, but even on fairly flat road surfaces the pull is enough that it gets tiring trying to keep the truck going straight.

I had researched these tires prior to purchase, and had noted that one person had a problem with them pulling as well, but that seemed insignificant. Well, after installation and a several months of driving with them, I looked further into it. There seems to be about 25% of the guys running them having problems with a pull to the right (that number came from a poll on a tacoma forum)

The problem seems to cross platforms as well since I saw guys with wranglers having the same issue.

That being said these are amazing in the mud and rocks and I have no worries about a puncture leaving me stranded in the mountains, but I spend more time on the road than in the mountains since I traded in the FJ.

My 4r is a 2014 trail with Toytec 3" suspension lift, oem trail wheels and JBA UCAs. My alignment numbers are perfect (even the caster since the install of the JBA UCAs), and were checked by 2 reputable shops (one independent and one chain) in my area that I have prior experience with.

These rock!

What pressure are you running them at?

I'm at 5000 miles with my set, no pull, perfect manners on the road. Running them at 40psi.

You know, I feel that person was me. But wow. Didn't realize it was an actual issue across multiple vehicles. I thought the issue would have gone away after a while or I would have gotten use to it. But after 3 alignments, both from reputable shops, and I'm ready to give up the tires to see if that's the real issue.

-.1 camber both sides
3.8 driver and 4.2 caster on passenger
.07 on driver and .08 toe on the passenger

40psi gets the vehicle going sort of straight for me but I notice wear on the inside of the tire and gets too darty on the highway. I have it set down to 35 psi now. Have to hold the steering wheel to the left a bit and with some muscle but it goes straight with ease. I'm thinking I may go with the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Still enjoy the pizza cutter size.
I'm gonna have to do some research on tires.

I like the size, but said piss on it, lol.

1st Alignment numbers after suspension lift, ucas and the maxx's installed:
CAMBER LF -.11 RF -.21
CASTER 3.59 3.47
TOE 0.09 0.09
TOTAL TOE 0.18
STEER AHEAD 0.00

I then noted the pull to the right. The shop checked the alignment again and said it shouldn't be pulling at all. To confirm it wasn't a bad tire, I swapped tires around...the pull stayed consistent. I decided to give it a bit longer.

2ND Alignment numbers after the pull continued (and to get a 2nd opinion on 1st shops work):
CAMBER LF -.1 RF -.3
CASTER 3.6 3.5
TOE 0.06 0.05
TOTAL TOE 0.10
STEER AHEAD 0.01

So, they did some tweaking, but the pull was still there.

3rd Alignment numbers after the install of my new 285/70r17 Pro Comps:
CAMBER LF 0.1 RF -.04
CASTER 3.7 3.6
TOE 0.06 0.08
TOTAL TOE .14
STEER AHEAD -0.01

The 3rd shop road tested and noted no pull. I drove the 60 miles or so home, nearly all highway and noted no pull.

Maybe I got a bad set. Maybe there was a bad batch. I dunno. There are enough people with a pull running these tires something has to be a common denominator. It's interesting that another 4runner might have no issue with these tires at all.

I will say that running these D rated tires is noticeable easier on my back and kidneys, lol. I got these after the recommendation of another member here who has them on his Trail and has been happy with them.

One thing that I am realizing calling around on this tire, not many places have the 255/80 ST Maxx in stock. That's something to consider. I do like this tire

Was there something in the AAA report that was particularly interesting that you want us to see or are you just going to drop it here and walk off?

At least tell us why it was a "good read and an eye opener" instead of being vague.

watch the guys youtube video.

and I like michelins
