Anyone traded their 5th Gen for another 5th Gen?

When I was originally searching for a 4runner it was hard to find a Trail with KDSS and Nav.. Now there's one nearby that's black on black with a little less miles than mine and its 1 year newer (2011) I emailed the sales manager to see if they were willing to do some sort of a trade and to let me know what he could offer.. I feel the Limiteds cost a little more.. and yes I have 8k more miles and a year older model.. but I'm just curious as to what they'd want me to put on top.. What do you guys think about this? or any info if you have done this. Thanks

adam, it matters not what we "think". Unless somebody else here has the same rig you have and tried to trade for the same rig you want at the same dealer etc. etc. There is no relevance. Unsolicited advice, if you really want to save bucks, buy the rig you want at the best price you can get then sell your current vehicle on your own for the best price you can get. I can pretty much guarantee you will save a bunch of money......be safe and have a very Merry Christmas!
 
Adam , just go ahead and pull the trigger on the trade, sounds like you settled for the LE in the first place. Go for the trail.
 
I'm just wondering.. I've got a friend who's slightly interested at 33k.. KBB is $33,600 trade in is $30,600.. the trail one they have is a 2011 with 34kmiles i have a 2010 with 44kmiles .. i'm wondering.. if i sell to my friend.. then i have to pay tax on the (i wouldn't take it below $34k) $2,040 but if i trade it.. i'm technically just paying them anywhere from 1,000-3500.. so wouldn't i just pay tax on that (@3500 it would be$210).. saving me a bunch.. Anyone have experience in this?
 
I personally would prefer a limited over a TE anyways. Just put TE body work on yours and have the Torsen center diff. Add a locker down the road and you are good to go. All the fancy traction control stuff....just be good with the brake and skinny pedal.

Adam, I originally had a 2011 SR5 4x2 and then I got stuck in my workplace parking lot the first winter it snowed. Then I started doing research on how I could never get stuck again. I found this forum and realized the Trail Edition was what I needed.

I scoured the nation for a nearby Trail but the only ones I could find were in Colorado. Then I found one in Dallas (I'm a Texas resident), and with the trade-in credit towards tax, I couldn't turn it down.

I got $29k for my loaded 2011 SR5 with 8000 miles on trade and paid $9500 out the door for a brand new 2012 with nav/no kdss. Tax credit should definitely be factored in to where you purchase. Just crunch the numbers and don't hesitate too long because TE's (at least in my area) are hard to come by. Mine was the only one in the 5 state gulf states region area.
 
thanks guys.. I'm gonna go in there this weekend and see what they can do.. if i feel its reasonable i may pull the trigger!
 
I explored trading my 2011 LE for a 2013 LE. Realistically, your trade value will be a function of the whole sale pricing at auto auctions which varies almost daily. Any time you trade, you loose substantial dollars. And yest, if you sell privately, you loose the sales tax trade advantage in most states.
 
i've talked with 2 dealers around here.. both have a trail with navi and kdss.. one is silver and one is black.. i prefer the black.. the black is a 2011 w/33k and they want $34,300... the silver is a 2010 w/40k and they want $29,900. Big price difference.. i've talked with both and im going to see what the dealer with the 2011 black trail will do for me tomorrow. it actually was the sales managers vehicle from new and he traded it in for a tundra lol
 
Adam - Can you list your reasons for the trade?

I'm asking to see if the math would be worth it. Right off the bat your loosing the original purchase tax and license fees. IDK what tax is at in your state, but here it's about 3k, add depreciation, etc.. Not worth it in my opinion.

Again, unless you want something in the TE that YOU CAN'T live without.

Remember also, you will be loosing full time 4WD.

when you do a trade.. you only pay tax on the difference out of pocket.. and i wont pay more than 1,000 on top @6% thats $60 for tax :)

and.. full time 4WD is nice if i was a woman who didn't understand the difference and how to put it into 4wd at the right time.. Part time 4WD is what i wish all 4runners had.. and that rear locker is amazing vs the center lock on the full time 4wd. i will miss heated seats and the auto a/c but i can deal to have KDSS and rear locker and it being black. not to mention 1 yr newer and 13k miles less on the black 2011.
 
In November I traded my 2011 SR5 without 3rd row and without Entune for a 2013 with premium package (3rd row and all the other extras). I had the 2011 for almost two years and it had 19500 miles. I got 29750 for it at the dealer, which gave me some equity, zero out of pocket, cut my interest in half, and pay $50 less a month. Negotiate, because they crave the used 5th generations and that's where they make money.
 
Well i went and did the trade today for a 2011 trail.. i got 31500 for my 2010 limited w/ 46k miles.. :) i bought it used 10months ago for 33500 w 26k miles.. hehe.. i did good id say :)

Ps went from 2.9% to 1.9% apr on the new loan.. taxes were just $160.. and my payments are $15 less :)

I drove into the dealership in my wife's SR5 and told them I wanted to buy another, the look was priceless!

Found a Trail in Denver, booked a one way ticket and drive her home the next weekend!
