Anyone with In-Channel vent visors?

I just installed my AVS in-channel vent visors on my windows and noticed that the auto up feature on our 4runners were having issues rolling up. It seems there is a safety feature like a garage door that when it feels resistance it will automatically stop and reverse.

My question is will this issue go away?
Or do I need to install the outside mount vent visors?

Roll the window up into the channel and leave it up for a couple days in the sun.... viola

I have Weathertech in-channels. Have had since new in 2014. I will be replacing mine with a tape on style somewhere down the road. As stated above leave them closed for a couple days and the auto feature will rectify itself. My problem is the 2 sided tape that holds the rear window visors in place doesn't. If I lower my rear windows the visors simply fall out due to the shape of the window frame. The fronts stay put via tension from the shape.

The safety system will learn. Will be replacing mine also worth stick on ones. The in channel ones rattle a lot. As stated above the tape on the rears don't hold very well and fall off if I open the back windows.

Funny thing is I have the outside mount visors also. (It's sitting in my living room)
Maybe I should chance them to the outside mount ones.

I've got a set of the AVS in-channels, the 2 front ones needed to be re-taped after about 2 months, the front part (think bottom of the window by the mirrors) was slowly separating from the channel. I purchased some 3M double sided tape from Amazon, replaced it, repeated the original process of leaving the windows rolled up for a few days, 6+ months later, absolutely no budge.

Have had zero issues with the windows rolling up/down. During the install you may need to manually finish rolling the windows all the way up, but after the original set they have no issues.

You could alway re-tape them?

I don't know about your AVS versions but the tape on the rear ones is a very thin - read scotch tape - 2 sided tape. It never held in the first place. And I have had 7 hells worth of searching trying to find something that would work better. Short of maybe an automotive Superglue Gel I haven't found any plausible alternatives. So I'm just going to replace them eventually. I have always had luck with the tape on style before, but I was also very careful with my prep work. I just wanted to try the in-channel ones for once.

I played with mine n pulled on them a bit n it did the trick. Wearing them in also helps

I have been disappointed with in channel visors on other vehicles. Slow window. Wind noise.

I've had mine on since 2012 and my trucks a 2011. No problems at all after the initial install. Like others have said leave the windows up for a few days and you may have to persuade them once in awhile but should not have a problem after that. I had the outside mount ones on my 3rd gen and worked for that truck but wanted the in channels for this truck. If you still have a problem, try a heat gun with the install and then if that doesn't work try replacing the tape + heat gun.

I'll give it a few days, to see if it causes an issue after it settles in.
I have the outside mount one on my 3rd gen runner, and I had the inchannel on my 06' Tacoma. (Both are great!)
I was just supprised to find out that this model had that safety feature on the automatic windows.

Vent visors

We had the AVS outside stick-ons on our '15 Wrangler and they looked good and worked great. The wife insisted on the inside Weathertecs for the '16 4R but we haven't installed them yet due to cold weather. These reports don't give me a lot of confidence in them! - Ted

I have the weathertech in-channel on mine, installed about 2 months ago when it's about 50F outside. Just follow the instruction and leave the windows up for 24 hrs, everything's been working great since.

I've had them twice. First set had problems and I had to re tape them. Next 4Runner I lost one of the rear ones somewhere in southern Illinois. Needless to say I went back to Vent Visor stick on. No problems ever plus it's easier to wash and dry the windows. I love riding with the windows down in summer which is when I lost the last in channel Visor. Good luck.

I had the same issue when I first bought the weathertec in-channel version. I called their customer support number and was sent a free, thick, plastic spatula type tool to run through the channel before putting the visors in.

Finally, I bought double-sided 3M tape and put it on all 4 visors in small sections like a couple of 3" or 4" strips (in other words not along the whole visor).

So far, the double-sided 3M tape has done the trick. The rear ones like others have mentioned, have fallen out or slid down when the windows were down. The front visors would rattle in place when the windows were down since the pressure was at the front and back but the middle section just floated freely in the channel.

Auto-up feature has not had problems since either.
