Well gents I've been watching the weather and this makes a very interesting/fun/muddy/wet weekend. Hopefully it won't be so bad but I always wanted to wheel in the rain.

Can you put a google maps pin drop or the coordinates? I'm not familiar with that area so I'm just going to use google maps to navigate me there lol.

Google maps functionality is spotty to non existent in places like Anza-B, Joshua or DV. It either will barely work, not work at all or work badly and send you in the wrong direction.

Instead use a back country navigation app. There are many. I use Backcountry Navigator Pro for Android. It has all the government maps and most are downloadable for free. You download the maps at home and then when you are on the trail and have no data service, the App uses the GPS plus the downloaded map to function. It also accepts basic GPS coordinates so you can pre-enter all of the locations posted above. Before trips I usually pre enter the important spots and drop a pin then use the Forrestry Service map for roads. It works great.

He's not talking about Google Maps to get him around the area, it's to get him to the meeting spot. It will cache your maps for the navigation, but once navigation is done then it becomes useless.

He's talking about getting to the meet location( because it changed)...not navigating the whole run on it. [emoji85]

GPS setups and mounts done. Garmin etrex for accuracy, nexus 7 running locus maps for preplanning and offline maps (thanks to [MENTION=117408]Oneluv13T4R[/MENTION] for the tablet mount idea) downloaded Miah's map as a KML and it imported the tracks and all points of interest into locus.

Has USGS Topo (CalTopo), Forest Service maps, National Park maps, satellite maps and even NOAA marine charts all for download (download the grids you want). I've noticed that my Garmin has most OHV/forestry/mountain/desert/etc roads on it. I never planned on using my Nexus 7 for mapping, but since my mom got my son a new tablet and my N7s are outdated for games/apps I figured why not make it useful.

I've had the same app for about a year. I've downloaded a few larger areas (Big Bear, San Diego County, Riverside County). While I like the app, it doesn't always let me zoom in real close at times when using offline. It gets blurry just as you get to the maximum zoom it allows. Have you experienced this? I haven't really used is since this summer though, so maybe some of the updates addressed that?

Didn't have time to fix my seat belts. The dog chewed them during my new years' trip so my driver's side belt is barely hanging on by a thread. I bought new (used) belts already. Kinda want to fix that asap...

On the plus side, I'm going to be able to get my rock sliders installed this weekend too.

curious to hear how the seat belt replacement goes. are you replacing the entire mechanis, or just the belt? please take photos and post up the process after you do it. my driver's side belt barely retracts anymore, but i hear that seat belts are not something to fuxk with because the retractors have some sort of explosive properties? similar to an airbag.

Thanks guys! Yeah I was just talking about getting to the meet location, I shoulda clarified.

I'll leave the actual trail navigation to the trail leaders :thumb3: haha!

I found Miah's post. He also mentioned Arroyo Salado and Truckhaven. I think we'll head to Arroyo Salado. The plan is to leave around noon, so we should be there about 2:30 or so. If you guys end up in the same area, keep an eye out for a black 4th gen and feel free to stop by for an adult beverage.
