Well, I got the Extreme X6S Slim mounted, wired, and aimed over the weekend! Everything went fairly smooth, although it was no simple task with my custom rack. I started by buying these 1" tube brackets made by Quixxsmart (Product #2534T33 from McMaster-Carr). (Pic 1)
While those were on their way, I wired in the harness by routing through the driver fender and up the door seal. I know there is quite a bit of controversy about the best way to get juice up to the roof, whether it be drilling a hole through the roof, going external down the windshield or door trim, implementing a shortwave microwave link, broadcasting a BLE (bluetooth low energy) signal, slapping on a 16ft solar panel, bolting on a 4G LTE Router... Oh shoot, did I mention there are lots of ways to do this? :tea:
I figured I'd go as unobtrusive as possible, so door trim it was. As I stand here in the rainy midwest, I can say that it doesn't leak and the door still closes quite nicely- there is a fairly large cavity to squeak the wire casing into. (Pic 2)
