Appearance Package Option...color-keyed cladding!

This is from "toyotaken" (Toyota salesman) on EDMUNDS.COM:

"The cladding and bumpers are all color-keyed. They are not just "painted" grey cladding. The anti-scratch coating on the grey cladding does not hold paint very well, so they have the same material used in the limited models. As far as I know and have been told, and I have asked specifically, the appearance package will ONLY be available for the SR-5 model and will not be available on the Sport model."

Hope this helps.

Am I reading correctly that the grey is not as suceptible to scratches, door dings, etc. as the cladding on the Limited?

Has anyone confrimed that existing sr5 owners will have the option to bring theirs in to have this package done? Looks like this is part of the 2003 models so i assume the 2003 existing sr5 owners must get some love here....no?

OK, guys, I know I'm resurrecting an extremely old thread here, but I have a question and I think it is relevant to this thread or maybe this other thread.

So, I have seen a couple 4runners without grey cladding that have notches on the fenders and was wondering which 4runners had these? I only scanned both of these threads, so don't shoot me if the answer is somewhere in here.

I had my grey cladding painted white. I actually like the look on it better since it gives it more of a chunkier look. Had a couple of people with newer white 4runners if they had the option to have my style cladding (with notches) in white cuz they like the look.

Been over a year since i painted them and they still look good. No paint issues at all.

I don't know where all the 03 SR5 and Sport 4Runners went but their seems to be no cladding trucks around my area.

I'd really like to know how many unpainted trucks are actually out their cause I've seen 2 with the cladding since the painted truckshave replaced them;):

I saw three grey cladded sports yesterday. A green, black and grey. With my black, that made four.

My rig was coated in ice, salt and black road grim, the power washer cleaned up the cladding in about 5 minutes. I really like the cladding and how easy it is to clean.

There are a few around here. But I think I have the only one in titanium with a spoiler.

I like that it stands apart from the crowd.

Yes, I also notice that the newer Runners are coming w/o a rear spoiler. I like the look of the OE spoiler and don't understand why so many of the new rigs are lacking one. It is not that expensive of an option.

So, it sounds like it wasn't ever a standard option. Part of the reason I asked is because I like the chunkier look. The durability and the notches really make me rethink my negative position on the grey cladding. Not that I would actually want it, but I can understand it better now.

I just found the pics of the one I saw back in September:

That is a painted '03, notice no silver lip at the bottom. I've seen a painted white '03 SE.

I have been toying with the idea of painting the lower bumper lips(currently silver) the color of my rig; black. I'd keep the cladding grey, wonder what that would look like?
