I don't wanna get to far off topic here because I'm still hoping someone has some insight into the IOS 5 Streaming BT Issue...

BUT!!! It's a great area for sure. Do you recognize this road?

I'm a bit of an Apple Fanboy and use an iPhone and iPad... However it appears that in both whenever you "Pause" the music it kills the feed to the head unit... There's also no difference between the music volume and output from an application.

So tonight when I saw a bad accident and fired up my Police/Fire scanner I couldn't kill the music and let the application stream like I have in the past. I tested this on a few applications and both devices without being able to make it work. I hope a firmware update for the head unit or IOS 5 will fit it. Loved being able to stream application audio in the past!

not real insight here, but so far i'm finding that BT audio with iOS 5 is actually worse than with iOS 4. i am experiencing all kinds of disconnects "player could not be connected" errors and when it is working the Nav often doesn't display the track info. displays album, artist, etc. just not the track title.

this morning i deleted my phone pairing on the Phone menu in the Nav unit, then deleted the player from the BT audio menu. i then re-paired my iPhone as a new phone, imported my contacts, reset my speed dials and set up the player in the Nav BT audio menu again. it seemed to working better, but need a little more time behind the wheel to say for certain.
 
Sounds like you're having the same issues with iOS5+Nav that I had with iOS4+no Nav unit.

All I can say is that I know your pain....
 
Sandcrawler, thats odd, as for me its been the exact opposite. I used to get random disconnects or non connects. Since the upgrade its worked 100%. I have noticed a slight audio distortion when fast forwarding, or sometimes changing, songs.

Maybe try a backup and restore on your phone, or a fresh iOS 5 install. There seems to have been a lot of glitches with the upgrades install for some people.
 
Please correct me if I'm wrong. The reason most can't use a thumb drive instead of their ipod is music bought or ripped by itunes is in AAC format which isn't recognized by the USB port. You would need to convert to WMA or MP3.

Thanks to the new iphone 4s release, I got a nice 16 gb 3GS (with ios 5) cheap that i can use like an ipod touch. Paired with my 4R just like others described.:banana:

that doesn't seem right to me, but i don't have my manual to confirm right now.

like MP3 and WMA, AAC is a standards-based, non-proprietary format. while it is the successor to MP3, there is a common misconception that it is proprietary to Apple... the acronym stands for "Advanced Audio Coding".

that said, if AAC audio is supported via a USB-connected iPod, it seems odd that it wouldn't via a USB-connected thumb drive.
 
Anyone having issues with Bluetooth connectivity?

For the past week, as my wife is driving home from work, the Bluetooth connection drops from her iPhone to the 4Runner. Then reconnects, this happens roughly every 3.5 minutes. I've tried to repair the phone to the vehicle several times, but it continues to lose connectivity. I guess I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue.

No issues

I use mine almost every time I am in it, and it has never had any issues.. I did have issues with my ipod via the USB, so I took the ipod and uninstalled everything, then set it all back up - since then good to go.

I know my droid has BT issues now and then but nothing too much.
 
My wife has the same problem. This last week it happened, she'd call and there would be no volume. Also it will show that its connected but when she makes a call she'll have to use the handset. Her phone is a droid.

i got the new 4S, which never had anything but iOS 5 on it so an OS upgrade couldn't have been the problem. but thankfully, after a little more time, it seems to be working well again now. seems deleting the iPhone from the Nav (both as phone and player) and setting it up again as a new phone did the trick.

there is one particular track on one album i've been listening to a lot lately whose track info doesn't display. it took a few rotations before i realized it was isolated to that one track. :redbrick:

EDIT: just realized what likely causes that one particular track name to not display! the track title is "El Manaña" ... it's a safe bet the Nav is simply borking on that diacritic.

I upgraded my ipod touch 32 to IOS5 and now am having Ipod/USB navigation issues. the head unit, non-nav, sees the artists, but the songs dont play at all or are very delayed. it worked much better before. does the radio need an update now?

I notice a pretty big difference. Via USB is best for music... However it doesn't hold your place the way a Bluetooth connection does when listening to am Audiobook so if I'm trying to get through one I switch.
 
okay, I have changed my mind. I ended up having to remove all my music from my ipod, then put it it all back on. so the ipod is now working. I see what you all are saying about BT. I really like how it operates, including when you turn off the truck, then how my ipod is restarted without any intervention from me. very cool now. USB is will only for charging now.
 
I think I like the sound using the aux connector best but then you have no control of the ipod. Both BT and USB seem really low level inputs even with my ipod maxed out and limit turned off.
