April - Buy 3 Tires get 1 free @ Toyota?

I was at the Toyota dealer yesterday, really just checking what tires they have and looking to replace my snow tires for the summer. Last year, the tire manager Ted really gave me a great deal on a set Blizzaks!

So, the tire gal walks up and tells me to "wait" for three weeks and in April, they will have their yearly Buy-3 get one free... Toyota is picking up the tab for the fourth tire. Wow, I've never been told by a dealer to wait for anything... Maybe this is just for Colorado? But, if national, it may be worth it to see... I kinda like the Toyo AT's and Terra Grapplers they had on the floor. She did not know if Coopers or Dura Tracs are part of the equation.

My dealer only has two kinds of tires that fit mine, and they are highway tires and they are overpriced. Like $260 each before installation.

I'll definitely check this out as my 20k service will be in April. I'd like to believe it won't just be CO, because the last few times I've been in to the dealer for service they have all these signs saying "We want to be your tire center!" "We match advertised prices on tires!" all over the service area. I'd guess that a lot of it has to do with getting people to buy aftermarket wheels/tires and roll them into their financing, because lots of people mod their trucks around here.

i wanted to take advantage of this deal (that ends April 30) and was going to go through Toyota (Go Toyota on Arapahoe). it sounds like a good deal but Toyota jacks up the price of the tires. I'm going with the Goodyear Wrangler adventures with Kevlar, at Toyota they want $260/tire but Discount is $237/tire. Toyota has a bunch of extra fees that discount does not have. Discount is much more convenient to get tires rotated/balanced after purchase and closer to home. Toyota quoted me $886 for all 4 mounted/balanced before tax and their disposable fees. Discount quoted me $1120 but will match Toyotas price. After they verified the deal with Toyota they are doing the deal for $980 all 4 tires out the door.

My dealer says they WILL price match, but I wonder if they make up for it with all those additional fees? The service rep I spoke with said they could do any tire they could order as long as it was the stock size (Except of course when I asked about the Nitto Trail Grappler MT). I opted not to go for it, since my stock Bridgestones are close to being warranty-able (through Bridgestone not Toyota). They are at 6/32's at 20k miles and are warrantied until 60k. My friend's family-owned tire shop contacted Bridgestone who said they can't warranty them until they're down to 4/32's and they must be worn evenly, so I'm gonna put a few more months on them. Here's what they looked like a month or so ago.

Long story short: the stock Bridgestones are shit, but if you stick with them you will hopefully end up with a 50% mileage adjustment to put towards your next set of tires.

[MENTION=107267]4Rager[/MENTION] i was told the same from toyota, only OEM sized tires and only some models. 275/65/18 are an OEM size but they wouldnt do the AT Hankooks. i put only 30k on the stock tires before changing them out to the hankook dynopros. then i put 80k on them and still have tread life. i could probaly go another 5-10k on these hankooks but saving $200+ im going to make the upgrade. how do you make the claim then, any bridgestone dealer? do they give credit towards any time or same set.

Well I realized something was fishy when the dealer told me to go to a local tire shop because the tire warranty "is handled by the OEM." Then I realized if you sell tires, why can't you contact the OEM...? Well the local shop loved the chance to take a shot at the dealer, "they match our lowest price, but don't want to support what they sell you." So the tire shop I went to contacted Bridgestone who said they can't do a mileage adjustment warranty until they're down to 4/32's. Assuming that will happen by 30k miles and the tire has a 60k mileage warranty, they should give me a 50% credit towards a new set. The shop seemed to imply I could use that on whatever tire I wanted, since I mentioned how the BFG KO2 is only ~$190 in a 275/70r17, and he said they could order those.

FWIW, I warranted my stock Rugged fails on my tacoma due to cracking through discount tire. I ended up with Michelin LTX MS2s on my Tacoma. So warranty shouldn't be an issue. The big issue is Toyota dealers seem to be overprice.

The stock Bridgestones are great, assuming you don't have to drive in the rain, snow, ice, off road... or you tow, trailer, haul, or do anything besides drove down perfectly flat, dry roads at 35-45mph.
