To be more clear most of the money came from parts from the Tacoma in my second post.

Took it out for a short test run on Saturday after installing the SS bumpstops and it performed above expectations. Ride is smooth and quiet and the rear end flexes great. The trail was rocky with several 6-10" ledges. I had reused the stock length sway bar links in the rear (front was already removed). Just before getting up the last ledgy sections the drivers side link pulled the top nut right through the bushings and washers.

Wife took a few pictures while I was pulling the sway bar out on the trail.

You and and I are quite similar. I had an 05 tacoma before the 4runner too (as far as vehicle selection goes).

This is looking great. You have the same (or very similar) set-up as I have planned. So, I appreciate you sharing your experiences. I have already learned a few things to plan for. I am on the lookout for a great deal on pizza cutters (255/85/16) to put on the stock split 3 spokes. As for the lift, I plan on the Toytec Ultimate, likely with Superflex and long travel Bilsteins in back.
What shocks and bumpstops are you using in rear?

Regarding the Savage rear bumper; that was my first mod. I specifically chose the Savage bumper for exactly the reason you ran into with tire rubbing on the factory bumper. I am hoping the curved lower tube just behind the tire gives that little bit of extra clearance for the tire. By the way, the Savage bumper is great. In hindsight, I wish I would have sprung for the swing-away tire carrier, but just couldn't get myself to spend the $$$.

By the way, I was successful at selling the factory rear bumper on Craigslist Denver for $50. I had some dents, but pretty free of rust, unlike many others around here.

Thanks. I am using OEM Tokico FJ shocks and Sonoran steel bump stops. If you are looking for a 255 m/t Maxxis Bighorns can be had pretty affordably. Discount tire can order them in. This would have saved me about $120 a tire over the Toyos if I remember correctly.
 
Fall Maintenance

The T4R is currently tore down for some maintenance items. As a part of this I am going to be asking for advice on products, and for help if run into issues.

I am trying to choose an engine oil for its first oil change since I have owned it. I think I have narrowed it down to either:

Mobil1 High Mileage full synthetic 5W-30
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil_1_High_Mileage_5W-30.aspx

or...

Valvoline Max Life full synthetic
Valvoline.com > Products > Motor Oil > Higher Mileage Motor Oil > MaxLife® Full Synthetic Higher Mileage Motor Oil

Also looking for suggestions on what to put in the front diff, but haven't started researching yet.

I am away and wont be back until next weekend, but I will look and see what I already have on my phone. I know I don't have one from inside the cab though.
 
Time for a little more maintenance.

So far I have planned:
  • NEW PLUGS
  • NEW WIRES
  • PCV/GROMMET
  • AIR FILTER
  • TRANS OIL
  • T-CASE OIL

Anything else I should do while I'm at it?

Nice 4Runner. That's a great picture of you squeezing through there. Maybe do the diff fluids too while you are doing the transfer case and transmission?

Thanks, it was fun, lots of good obstacles on that run. Diff's were left off as I already did both recently, but I like your thinking :cheers:

It looks like it was a lot of fun. I'm trying to find some better places to do stuff like that around here. Sounds like you've got a pretty good grasp on the maintenance then. The only other suggestions I would have other than wear items like brakes are maybe a coolant, power steering, and brake flush if they haven't been done in a while.
 
Love the truck. I'm actually going to some great lengths to pick up a similar truck to yours in Wyoming on Friday. 99 elocker 5speed truck, only thing is I gotta drive it back to KY haha.

Keep up the build. Love the progress so far.

Thanks, good luck. A '99 would have been great. Tune up and front bumper/winch should go on this month.
