ARC's '98 build thread

New plugs, wires, PCV, grommet, air filter and MAF cleaned. Trans and Tcase and CBI bumper install are coming soon.

Andrew, It was great to meet you. We had a killer time and I really enjoyed wheeling with another 5-speed. You've got some serious skills and I hope to see you again soon!

Thanks man, you impressed me as well. It was an awesome group to test our skills and 4Runners with. Wish you didn't live all the way on the other side of the state so we could wheel more often. Hit me up anytime you head West.

While in Moab

lovely spot.

really? what's better about the other ones?

This one has beautiful views, but is fairly close to a well used/dusty road. Great during the off season, miserable during peak weekends.

The ones further down are in a cottonwood grove that offers privacy and shade. They are also right by the river, and I always enjoy having running water near camp. The area was also full of all sorts of waterfowl and turkeys a few weekends ago which was nice. I like retreating into the wooded area after spending all day on the open desert.

privacy + shade + river = A+.

New Deka Intimidator

My winch is finally off back order and should be arriving anytime wich gave me the excuse to go ahead and pick up the new AGM battery I had been wanting. I researched several options and found a few I thought would work well. In the end I decided on a Deka Intimidator 34R. Their low cost and US manufacturing seemed like the best value available. Here is a link to what I ended up with:

Deka Intimidator AGM Battery, 775CCA, 955CA, Group Size 34R (9A34R)

Now it is also interesting that I paid less than the price listed at LRO above. I went to my local Hensley Battery and they hooked me up. They are more of a distributor/wholesaler than retail, but the only place to buy a Deka branded as a Deka locally.

There has been lots of speculation on what Dekas can be rebranded as, well I am here to say that they are indeed the same as Sears' Diehard Advanced. I know this because I watched the guy peel the stickers that said so off my battery and put new Deka Intimidator decals in their place.

I paid $119 and think I got a great deal.

Woke to find the 4Runner vandalized this morning. Luckily they left the Tundra alone and I was able to mostly remove it. Some people's kids.
