This topic is definitely catching my attention. I always took it for granted that the seats are secure without any locking mechanism. I went down and closely examined the back seats in my 4Runner after reading all of this info. I noticed that it does take a considerable amount of pull to actually get the seat bottoms to lift up. They don't just fly up when you touch that strap. If you add additional weight to the seat, it would be even harder for the seat bottoms to lift up. You can never be too safe though.
