Are there any lift supports for the rear hatch that work in the cold other than OEM?

I'm reading reviews on the strong arm and the monroe max lift.

It seems like they all suck, especially in the cold.

The strong arm seem to get the "best" reviews but still lots of people saying that they don't hold the door open in really cold weather.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Mine need to be replaced and the OEM ones are over 200 a piece!! WTH is with that?

I wasn't all that happy with them, but they are better than the worn out ones I pulled off, and they were only 26 bucks. Now that we hit full winter mode, I can confirm that they don't lift well at all in the cold temps, but if you push the door all the way up to max extension, it will stay there. so, still better than original, and the price is right.

If it's $400 a set, you will probably do better to buy some StrongArms. They might not work quite as good as the OEM, but I bet they will last at least a couple years. I've used their struts on heavy hoods and they seem to last about 2 years.

I ordered some Monroe ones. I'll give you a review when they come in on Tuesday. I have them on my jeep but they are just pushing up the hatch glass so it's not as heavy as a door. They work fine in that application.

RockAuto lists four brands of lift supports and I just read some reviews on the Sachs brand from amazon, they got good reviews.

I'm glad this is a common problem. I thought they were just a little soft until it got cold, then they wouldn't stay up well at all. I hit my head pretty damn hard tonight unloading it because they wouldn't stay up. I guess I'll have to keep watching to see if a better one comes up.

I haven't gotten these but I will. Strong Arm lists 2 types of supports for our truck one set is "added lifting force" which supposedly is better in the winter months. Now whether it will clock you in the chin in the summer months I don't know.
