I found this website that sells strap on armrest boosters. Auto Chic Armrests

They sell 2.5 and 3.5 inch thick armrests. Vinyl is $60 Leather is $100 (you remember I mentioned the common sense part earlier....)

I bought a 2.5 inch model in the color they call parchment

I had to be able to use the original mounting hardware so it would fit on the center console. The original piece had a bulging top so I dremeled and hack sawed till it was pretty flat.

Then I needed a base that was flat and hard. It needed to fit into the vinyl cover so it had to be thin. Plus I had to be able to drill into it so I thought... wood or... this, a cutting board.

As you can see I trimmed the cutting board down to the right size to fit into the cover and then drilled out the holes to match the original mounting hardware.

then I shoved the cutting board into the new armrest and attached the mounting bracket.

Then I trimmed off the straps and mounted it in the truck. The color is a little light but it's close enough for me and it feels great!!

whew, time for a Guinness!

Do you still have the small "upper" compartment of the console?

Did you loose any storage space at all.

I have a 96 so no upper compartment. I didn't lose any storage space unless you count that upper part I cut off but I'd have to fill my console past full to use that area. So to put it simply, it's the same as it was except for the 2.5 inches of nice cushy padding on top.

I didn't realize you didn't have the other storage spot. Looking at the picture again, I see that now.

Thanks, it was more work than I planned on putting into an armrest but it turned out comfy and that's all I wanted.
