I test drove a GC before getting the T4R
All I can say is:
You better be a small dude who doesn't like moving his legs around when driving
And you'll only take your buddies on a road trip once, because they'll NEVER wanna ride in that 2nd seat again

The only thing I like about the GC more than the T4R is the steering feel

Hey, diver, yeah, 59. And I work in hospice, so, I don't know about what Sarah Palin thinks she sees, but I can see 70 from my house!

I'm 6'3" and don't have a lot of personal padding. In the truck for about 300 miles and most of the day last Saturday, I found the seat completely comfortable, and I expect the range of adjustment of the seat to make longer trips effortless. Good luck with your search and your decision

My buddies '08 (? IIRC) Ford Mustang, at 13,000 miles needed something like a new water pump and fuel pump and some tie rod ends already. His wife's Explorer, a '06, already needed new front CV axles and some other stuff. Ouch.

Thanks, Brad. I did some hospice volunteer work years ago. Mostly had aid patients at a time when it was still 100% fatal.

Beating a dead horse until it's unrecognizable here.... To make a long story short, Got married, Ex-wife wrecked my brand new '15 Tacoma Sport 4X4, she wanted a jeep so I bought it.

2013, 2WD, Limited with a Hemi, LOVED the thing. great on road, A/C front seats, great on road, fast as hell, amazing stereo, reliable as hell (Apparently I had a unicorn having a reliable jeep) kickass in every way and nothing better than racing (and beating) a Mustang GT

Got divorced.... Fell into some money

Bought a 2017 4Runner TRD-Off Road, worse in every measure on road handling, just slightly better handling off road with almost 100HP less and over 10K more expensive, it's slow, its outdated, body roll that will make you think you're upside down on off ramps but you know what?

I wanted a 4Runner when I bought my Tacoma, didn't want the jeep when I bought it, For what I "need" the jeep was a better car...... BUT I'M IN LOVE WITH MY 4RUNNER! I don't regret it, my payment is huge but I'm so in love with the looks and how it jumps all around on the highway... The jeep is a far superior vehicle but I learned to drive in a '99 Dodge Ram 2500 that was terrible in every way (Yet I will always love), and something about the fact that I can re-live that experience in a brand new bulletproof vehicle that looks amazing is what drew me back to Toyota and the 4Runner and I don't regret it one bit!

I thought the comparison was odd, too. Jeep does make something like the TE, I think it is called "trail ready." Has skid plates and qudra-drive II. That would have been apples to apples.

Nope. Those are just options. The "trail ready" simply signifies that eons ago, some version of that vehicle crossed the Rubicon during testing. That's all.

I have built Jeeps for 22 years now. There is a time and a place for them. Not that most of us consider that Mercedes GC a Jeep, per se.

There is also a time and a place for a T4R. That's why I have both! Each works very well at what it is designed to do, but there is no way that I am doing 5-800 miles a week in the Rubicon on 37's so enter the 4 Runner. It gets me where I want to go in the wicked Northeast in the middle of winter. And it does it comfortably and reliably.

I bought a 2006 JGC and at 12k miles had to have the transmission replaced.... enough for me to trade it in

Not a GC, as I decided to go 4runner this time, but I have purchased 3 RAM vehicles and all had ZERO problems. Two of them over 150K before I traded.
The 6 cyl is a GREAT engine - no problems with the one I had. Conversely, I purchased a 2013 Toyota Tacoma that was a piece of junk. Traded it off after 3 weeks. Hoping that this 4runner is a LOT better.
