I'm at a loss with my 1999 4-runner sr5. When going for a ride ran out of gas and the gas gage showed 3/4 of a tank. Had AAA tow it home. Did not know gas gage was not reading right. Replaced sending unit in tank. It did not work. Checked relays and fuses all good. Started working on harness and found burned connection . Rewired and nothing happened. Also found out headlights are not working and milage gage is not working either but parking lights are working.:fish2: Do not know where to look any more. Anyone know where the headache might be? :fish2

Combination plate, the circuit board behind the gauge cluster. The signal for the lights runs through it. The mileage and fuel gauge also run through it. Check it for burns.
My 99 had a problem where the headlights no longer auto shutoff. My fuel gauge was also completely inoperable, with a constantly blinking fuel light regardless of fuel level. There was a burnt circuit on the combination plate.
The combination plate part number is 83861-3D281-RP. The motherboard needs to be programmed with your mileage. About $230.
That particular combination plate also has to be paired with the sender unit 83320-35590 for the fuel gauge to work properly.

We received the information. Thank you guys. Do you have to recalibrate to get vehicle to operate right. I am nor worried about odometer. Got over 265 thousand on car. Used mostly for off road. Can't see to pay out that much money to have it recalibrated if I don't have to. Main thing is get headlights to work and gas gage.

macb found bad spot
Took board apart and found burned spot in back between the white and blue connectors. There's a junk yard up the road from me who has the whole cluster for $50 or do you think I should go new? I fixed the burned connectors
where it originally shorted. Is there any place else where I should look for shorts that I haven't spotted?:whoo:
