I get it. You're a local business. You have overhead like a building and parts on the shelf (not the ones I need, but I digress) and staff.

That being said, I went in to my local dealer today to pick up a couple of items I needed to do my rear diff breather extension and two parts for my rear axle seal job (the ABS ring and retainer).

Local Toyota Dealer:
ABS Ring: $143.44
Retainer: $51.70
Diff Breather Pipe: $20.90
Diff Breather: $10.78
Total: $226.82 CAD

Amayama:
ABS Ring: $9.21
Retainer: $11.29
Diff Breather Pipe: $3.23
Diff Breather: $2.90
Total: $26.63 CAD

So, for $200 more, I can have the pleasure of supporting a local dealer who has to special order my parts for me anyway. Unfortunately, where I live the next local dealer is in Prince George, BC which is nearly 2000km away.

Needless to say, because I see that the online source now has stock, I will be returning what I can.

This will be a first for me, in my experience one of two things happen:

1: It hits Vancouver and Canada Post sends it up to Whitehorse. There's no duty or taxes for whatever reason (even though they've declared) and it ends up in the parcel locker at my mailbox.

2: It hits Vancouver and Canada Post sends it up to Whitehorse (they fly the mail up here 90% of the time which is nice). There's duty and taxes and I pay at the local Shoppers.

If there are duty and taxes then it's no big deal. Like I said, a lot of the things that I've bought overseas are hit and miss. Even with legitimate declaration (actual values, non-exempt country of origin, etc) I've had things where Customs has decided there is no amount due. At 100% taxes and duty it'd still be a deal compared to local dealers.

I'll let you know how I make out!

Here's what your receipt would look like from my counter (before the 8.23% NM sales tax)... Even with converting USD to CAD they're absolutely raping people at that markup.

I don't remember reading about amayama...so I typed it into the search ( on this forum) clicked posts, instead of threads and it looks like lots of people are using it with great results. I'm gonna give them a try soon

Without doing any research myself, just be aware of "fake" toyota parts. Seems to be a common thing these days. They can be pretty good replicas with packaging and all.

Typically, from what I've seen locally (not near as remote as the Yukon) is Toyota dealerships in Canada charge 3x what the US Toyota dealerships charge.

For that reason, I buy all my Toyota parts either online, or from the US. I have for years.

And now I'm looking at Land Cruisers so the parts buying isn't going to slow down.

One of the guys in the shop with a LHD All-Trac uses them. Another one has a LHD Evo and he's used them as well. We'll see how things turn out, the big thing up here is always the shipping time.

The wife is at home for a year now (woo maternity leave!) so at least I can keep the runner parked 90% of the time and if I do need it the drive to work is only 4km.

So - a quick update on my order.

Ordered my parts on the 7th, and they shipped out from Osaka to Vancouver on the 11th via Japan Post.

Arrived at my door on Monday (15th) here in the Yukon. I couldn't pick up until today due to the arrival of a small human!

All in, I was $217 CAD for OEM parts to do my rear axle seals. From inspection against local dealer parts, these are legit.

Once things settle down around the house with number 2, I'll pull the stubs and run them down to the machine shop!

This being said, if I had a dealer that shipped reasonably or a local dealer who didn't outright gouge for parts I wouldn't look so hard for alternatives!

I'm not sure if it's a Canadian vs US thing but from my experience, in the US every online parts Toyota dealership I've come across shows the MSRP on the website and it is consistent. But if you walk into a local dealer they will quote and show you the BS higher price.

Has anyone had success with Toyota Parts Direct? I did an online order with them but it just vanished with no trace after filling in my credit card and completing the sale. I wasn't charged or anything so no loss. I tried calling them several times to order over the phone but no answer. I recently emailed them explaining how nearly impossible it is to do business with them... no response.

I ordered once from Camelback Toyota Parts Factory out of Arizona and had some problems because my shipping address wasn't the same as billing address. Tried it again recently and it won't go through because of this. So I just ordered some LBJ's off Amazon in the US and I'll pick them up at the border. They didn't have the new bolts so I'll have to use the old bolts until I can get replacements, maybe from the Stealership if they aren't too outrageous which is unlikely. Not the way I like to do things but nobody is making this easy for me.

In the USA, each Toyota dealer invents it's own 'list price' for each item.
3 dealers, 3 different claimed list prices, these for spark plugs: $3.13 at Camelback Toyota(in Phoenix, AZ), $4.00 at Toyota Santa Monica(crooks), $4.25 at Toyota Marina Del Rey(bigger crooks). Oh, and the Camelback selling price was $2.29.
I goofed when ordering from Camelback and had to buy 5 spark plugs locally. I couldn't bring myself to finally cave in to the crooks for about 24 hours.

I used Amayama a few years back to get an actuator for my Tacoma rear locker...800+ everywhere stateside, got it from them for half.

If I recall...really did nothing on my side other than order and wait...shipping took a few weeks but that was all. Part has worked great for years now.
