Fair enough! Thanks for the info. You think 13 quarts is sufficient? Or go for 14?

I’m sure you’d be fine with either. The write up says he started seeing new red fluid the last time he did his start and stop. I didn’t actually see any newer fluid as I stopped about 10 1/2 quarts then used the remaining 1 1/2 quarts for getting fluid levels right. I was left with under a 1/4 quart.

I just did a drain and fill and when I pulled the overflow plug it drained out the excess like it should. As it got to a trickle I was about to put the plug back in and realized I forgot to grab the new crush washer so I quick ran and got it and when I came back there was no more coming out. Do I need to add more back in now or is there enough still in there?

You're suppose to put the plug back in when the fluid draining out has slowed to just a trickle, that being said I think you should be good.

Yeah I was kicking myself for forgetting the crush washer. I should have just stuck the plug in and then turned the engine off and waited a few minutes and then pulled it back out and replaced the crush washer then.

MAJOR thanks to OP for creating this awesome tutorial that is helping others still 10 years later. Very precise instructions and my runner is shifting like butter now. SHEEEESHHHHH.

The TRANSMAX ATF/CVT from CASTROL is working well as well.

Installed my brother's brackets and coolers yesterday for power steering and transmission. He's got a website call Iconic Fabrication and sells brackets and kits for lots of Toyota trucks. Drained and filled the transmission as I don't have any records showing it's ever been done before even though it shifts fine, and it's at 180k miles. Ended up using 18 quarts and checking the level using a temp gun on the pan. Drained 2 quarts at a time, then filled 2 qts. Shifts smoother now.
