Attaching a Rola roof rack?

Used angled aluminum and the u bolts that came with the rack. Pretty easy actually.

I really like the way you mounted your Rola. Quick question, what are you using between the rack and your mount? I noticed you have some black pieces cut to fit your mounts. Is that rubber? Where did you get it from?

I found a super easy way by using the provided hardware. I wanted mine close to the truck so I notched the frame too.

Yeah it's just little strips of rubber I got from the local hardware store and cut to fit.

Uhh, my parkrose hardware store had a "random cut" bin with lots of pieces of rubber. I think it cost me like $0.30 for the whole small piece.

I copied Jaketino and got some 1" aluminum angle iron, stainless steel U-Bolts and runner washers.

I also had a bit of a FAIL. I figured I would take the "Rola" off of the wind deflector. In case anyone is wondering, Acetone will take it off, BUT it will also take off some of the shiny surface as well. So i pretty much just scuffed up the whole thing for a "matte" finish. What do you guys think? Should i leave it or wrap it in some black vinyl?

I really like the lower profile look and I plan on doing this mod. I picked up a used rack with the extension. When mounted on my 2001 4Runner, the rack now overlaps the sunroof. Do you guys think I should cut the extension back to eliminate the overlap, or leave the length as is? To make it fit without any overlap, I would have to cut out two bars segments...

It's mainly a matter of personal preference. IMO, I would leave it long, unless you love having an open sunroof without anything blocking the sun. If you want it shorter, just get rid of the extension. I doubt it's worth doing any cutting to make it look "perfect".

I still haven't made any custom mounts for mine, but still like the long rack. The higher profile isn't the best, but I just haven't got around to making some type of low-profile mounts.

Resurrection...what size/thickness angle did you use and how much clearance did that give you in the center of the roof?
