ATTENTION: Service Campaign for '05 Sulfer Smell

I received a call from Lustine Toyota concerning a Service Campaign for the 2005 T4R V6 models to correct the sulfer smell.

This may be old news, however, this is news to me!

He wanted me to bring my vehicle in for immediate catylic convertor replacement, HOWEVER, I reminded him that I have the V8!

I have been bugging this poor guy concerning the sulfur smell that he though he was calling me for good news. Well, we ended the conversation with him saying he has many call to make and a limited supply of the cats available. First come, first served.

We will hopefully have help soon with our V8s!

I've spent the past 5 hours downloading all of the individual .pdf files for the 2005 repair manual from techinfo.toyota.com. I saw this TSB out there, too. I guess that is what the call is about.

Good news. Hope us V8 owners get some relief soon.
Everytime I get on it, that stink permeates(sp) the interior and passengers kind of start looking at each other like who the hell cut the cheese.

Are you guys experiencing the sulfer smell with the rear window UP?

Or (like me) only when the rear window is Down?

I experience it on my 05 v8 with all the windows up .... only on a heavy acceleration though.

I only smell it when the back window or the 2 rear seat windows are down.

Although, my son and I do take great pleasure in gunning the V8 when we pass pedestrians who are on the sidewalk!

Ok..my V6 had the TSB, so I'm good with the windows up...but with the rear window down....

...WHEW!! Who cut the cheese?...

I always thought it was because I don't have a rear spoiler.

I thought if I added a spoiler that it would go away, since the air would 'force' down the exhaust.

Or, maybe by adding an aftermarket exhaust kit (out the side exhaust).

Sounds like it probably wouldn't help.

I have a Magnaflow with the resonator cut off and turned out and a rear spoiler. It makes NO difference. If I drive with the windows up and the moon roof just tilted it still STINKS. Toyota really needs to get their head out of their ass and do something about this.
Hopefully a TSB for the V8 will follow the one for the V6.

So why only the V6? I definitely have the problem as do many others here with the V8. Maybe they're trying to limit the number of people at once and hopefully they'll issue one for the v8 later. Maybe.

Don't worry too much about it. They did the same with the 2003-2004 Sulfur TSB. The V6 one came first then the V8... I'm surmising that they sell more V6s so they want to take care of them first, but its just a hypothesis

This is one area of the 4rth gen where I'm dissapointed in Toyota.....they're really dragging their heals on sorting this out.

the VIN# on my 05 V6 4wd includes the VDS (BU##R, ZU##R) shown in the TSB so i guess i should take my truck in for this service?

does this TSB mean (for now) they're only fixing it on the vehicles whose VDS match what's in the TSB?

I wonder how good the fix will be - the previous (04 TSB) only mitigate the prob somewhat, not quite completely as most would like.

I hate leaving my truck with the service dept.

I just called the dealership service dept I got my truck from and they looked up my VIN and claimed there's no recall or campaign on my truck. Was asked to bring the truck in next week for a "diag". Geez - for a well known problem like this, is this the normal procedure at all? i mean, Toyota already issued a TSB - what the hell?

Bummer mines falls into the range. I just got my truck 6/30. I wonder how long they will hold it for?
