August 2011 Meet

I recall TraumaHawk mentioned that he was going to to a run down in San Diego first weekend of August, but he never made the thread for it so we can get the info out. If that has changed, maybe we can get another meet going this month 13-14 or 27-28.

I wanted to go out on Aug. 6th. Coral Canyon sounds good to me.

Aug 6 Run, Corral Canyon OHV

Trails and what to expect:

1. Pancake Rock via Carveacre Trail - Carveacre Trail is a 5 mile long trail (an hour each way) that is SEVERLY-rutted and that culminates in a steep slab rock climb onto a huge huge rock top!

2. Sidewinder - Corral Canyon OHV, (Sidewinder - Dirtopia, the Off-Road Encyclopedia) Sidewinder is one of the more difficult trails at Corral Canyon OHV. It offers some rock-climbing, a drop-off, often referred to as The Slide or the Waterfall:jaw drop: and challenging off-camber stuff. This is a very narrow trail at places which means your vehicle WILL become one with nature's tree branches (small) and tall bushes and maybe even a rock wall obstacle. No water crossings at this time.

Date: Saturday, Aug 6, 2011

Time: Los Coches McDonald's in El Cajon (Los Coches McDonald's - Los Coches McDonald's) at 7 am. There is a Shell gas station as well here where we can fuel up. Leave McDonalds at 7:30 and head to Carveacre Trail staging area off the 79 West.

Trail Rating: Moderate to Difficult

Vehicle recommendations: 3" lift, 33" tires, sliders, rear locker and armor.

CB Channel: 12

I have never been down the Sidewinder path and I think it may be a bit much for "my baby" to handle. I will probably try it once I have some more experience. I watched several youtube videos of "The Slide" / "The Waterfall" and it looks pretty intense for a moderate trail.

I plan to go but will probably not go down Sidewinder.

Here is a good video of a series of Jeeps going down the drop-off in Sidewinder

Sounds like a blast! Both trails are very fun. Thanks Brian for pointing me to this thread. I'd like to meet up with you guys soon.

The first time going to Carveacre I couldn't even get through the gatekeeper. :) Even locked with 35's, it took me 3 tries to get through! The rest of the trail is a fun ascent to the huge granite mountaintop. I have never gone up Pancake rock in a truck though... It freaks me out too much haha.

I think this is Sidewinder, right before that drop? I can't remember very well, its been a while...

Well I will be down to go starting in a few months. I just got a new job now I can buy some suspension, tires and wheels. :) I might be willing to go though.. I have to see how this week plays out.

Hey for August, is there going to be an "Easy Trail Run" going on this month? I have some freinds that want to go out with me. Can someone let me know? If so, I need to take the day off. Thanks. :D

I am happy to do a easy run.,.. I need a break from fixing my rig after ever run $$$ Some fresh mountain air would do me some good...

Easy Run on the 27th.

If some of you guys want to get together for an easy run on the 27th, I'm down. Bee's Canyon was easy, and scenic.

Sounds good! I am in! I guess I should start the roll call for this Bees Canyon Easy Trail Run. :thumb3:

27 August easy run

I'll probably bring the family, the river is a beautiful spot to stop and have lunch. It will take the better part of the morning to do the run, leaving the afternoon for Idylwild, which has nice shops and stuff to do.

DonnyBiggs,

Your avatar might be giving some people pause before heading out to the trail together. I don't have any problems with cops but the way you advertise yourself implies the FIVE-0 are coming along on the trip.

Have fun guys, I'm going to have to pass on this one as well. Funds are running short right now, so hopefully soon I will be back out on the trail.

I don't quite get it...are you suggesting that evil doers may not want to join us on our trip? Is that a bad thing? Care to elaborate?:wtf:

Wow Really?

Well, I am just trying to have a good time and learn how to use my truck offroad.

You know I do have days off, and will not be issuing any tickets lol.. I was at the June Meet and nobody expressed any issue... hopefully that isn't the case..

if it helps... I am also a member of one of the oldest lowrider car clubs in Orange County. I also drive a 64 Chevy Impala. :uzi: lol

Hopefully there will be more cool people that come out to enjoy a good weekend in the hills.

I was also going to say if people think they are wheeling with the Po Po then maybe we wont have people drinking on the trail. After all this is supposed to be a fun family friendly event. People that are worried about having an off duty officer along might consider why they would need to worry. Also need to consider if they have things to worry about what they are doing to positively promote our sport. We( off roaders) have a bad rap for not staying on trails, drinking and driving(yes still illegal when on the trails) littering(as evidence by the trash bag of stuff I pick up each trip) and general rowdy behavior. I have only met a couple people that I have concerns with but all have behaved on group trips so far and I hope we can keep this going with RESPONSIBLE actions.

I may try to make it. I think my suspension is getting delivered this week and hope to have it installed before the weekend. It all depends on if the wife doesn't have extra work to bring home.
