Has anyone here ever used Off Road Ltd. in Aurora, Colorado for anything? I am considering having them install 5100s to raise/level the front of my TE. They've been in business a long time, but the few reviews I've been able to find have been mixed.

Any specific questions I should be asking when booking this job?

They're OKAY... personally when I lived in Denver, I just drove to SLEE in golden as they're toyota guy's and love what they do. Not to mention they do a great job! Also there you can hit a trail and test the suspension, any problem's drive straight back and get it adjusted or corrected accordingly.

Thanks for the feedback. I've collected a few quotes so far, and here's what I have:

4Wheel Parts in Denver: $550

Off Road Ltd in Aurora: $520

Slee Off Road in Golden: $640
Set of fronts and rears: $900

Rock Toy in Englewood: $500
Set of fronts and rears: $740

These are for 5100s on the front to level, with install and alignment.

Slee actually recommended that I do both the front and rears as a set, and they wanted $900 for that. No way the wife is going to go for that.

I'll have to think this over today and decide what I want to do. I'd like to get this done sooner rather than later, b/c I don't like how the truck handles now as-is with the extra weight up there.
 
Those quotes seem pretty high. I'm wondering if the quotes are inflated because they've not dealt with KDSS before? Honestly, a professional shop should be able to do a front shock replacement (that's all it is), even with KDSS, in a couple of hours, tops. So with an alignment, you should be looking at closer to $250-$300, even with $90-$110/hr rates.

I know my comments do not provide you with a better alternative, just trying to provide perspective since the quotes seem inflated. Having done the lift install myself in my garage (front coilovers took me ~6 hours -- while mechanically inclined, I do not have professional type tools and was on my back most of the day), I would say that KDSS should not complicate things that much if you know what to expect and how to counter the KDSS system when you disconnect the swaybars. Anyway, happy to offer input if you decide you want to tackle the install yourself.

Buy once cry once, man. Go with a lesser known shop and you risk finding out why they're lesser known.

Any reason you can't do it yourself? Find a shop that'll put together the coilovers and the rest is just turning wrenches.
 
I wouldn't pay any of those...seems way too high.

Another option is to Call Jacob at Toycrawlers. He is a Toyota Tech at Boulder Toyota. I've read good things about him. I believe he is located in Broomfield.

:faint: do these prices include the 5100s?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are the first two quotes for front only and the last two for front only and all 4? Personally I wouldn't do the front without the back at the same time. Maybe others will say go for it, but I would think it would give you a weird ride with the stiffer Bilsteins in the front and our mushy stock shocks in the rear.

Spring for all 4 and befriend someone with some tools and skill and make this a weekend project.

That's a really good point - we'll have to wait for OP to chime in. The other point to consider is this -- while installing the front shocks may be a little tricky (deal with either the UCA or LCA to make room to remove the strut, disassemble/re-assemble the strut with the new shock, and deal with KDSS), replacing the rear shocks is CAKE! I can't see how those last two shops are charging sooo much just to unbolt and replace the rear shocks. To Newf4R's point, the quoted prices must include the shocks themselves.

Sometimes a "lesser known shop" may be a new business, or may be they just to dont want to become a "big" shop.
How do you think those big name shops got that way ? at one point, they, was a "lesser known shop" :noidea:

I agree with finding a shop assembling the COs and installing yourself, if you have basic tools.
 
Interested to see the responses on this thread as I will be looking for somebody to install my lift on my Trail Edition. I'm just north of Denver so this thread is right on

Agreed. That was certainly my case with Safari LTD in Grand Junction,Co I would never go back there. They did my lift and still to this day it "pops" from not being installed correctly the first time. I forget what I paid but it was up there and like you said you're paying for a name.

My experience with SLEE was different as I was there from 8am-4pm one day having work done and they charged me $360 which was for labor and parts. They where polite, professional and reasonable. They also did a great job. So happy to pay the extra $100 for decent work.

SOMETIMES it's worth paying the for the name sometimes not. Oh and personally unless you know the technicians well at 4wheel parts, I would avoid having your suspension installed there. My local one to me know didn't even know what KDSS was. Red Flag. Rock Toy I have heard good things....never personally had work done though.

For sure. My point is that basing your shop selection just by who's got the lowest price could be an expensive mistake.
 
Sometimes you're paying for the name at higher priced shops but remember, they had to earn the ability to charge more for their name somehow.

When ever you have someone else work on your truck, ALWAYS go over the work with a fine tooth comb. Make sure things look right, bolts are tight, they didn't damage something else in the process, etc, etc, etc.
 
Another +1 for SLEE Offroad. The did my lift, compressor, locker. I won't go anywhere else now and count my blessings they are within 15 miles.
